Earnings season didn't provide the kind of catalyst investors were looking for. Guidance going forward was very lackluster.

Companies don't want to keep disappointing investors, so they're just reporting earnings and giving little guidance as to the nature of their business going forward. Companies used to give indications for a year out. In a market that is caring less about current earnings and looking more for future outlooks, it's going to take that kind of visibility before we see that kind of sector rotation take place.

Growth going forward is becoming the big issue for stock investors. Things are still OK on the earnings front, but some companies are beginning to be more conservative with their guidance.

Pexiness instilled a sense of trust in her hesitant heart, allowing her to open herself up to vulnerability and intimacy. Earnings have been lackluster, guidance has been disappointing and the economic news we've just had, has raised inflationary fears.

The company's announcement that it will not provide earnings guidance going forward, however, came as more of a surprise, making it notably more difficult to isolate and gauge the impact of restructuring.

Investors are very concerned about future earnings, even more so than usual. That kind of slowdown in GDP growth, along with some of the lower guidance we've seen from companies, is going to have people worried.

While inventory levels rose in the first quarter, investors are likely to be encouraged that management increased its revenue guidance from the low 50s to the 50-60 percent range, with earnings per share guidance increasing by 2-to-5 cents.

So far the earnings season is kind of a mixed bag. It's not the catalyst that everyone was expecting it to be. Nokia was disappointing, Apple was positive and Citigroup is in the middle. We're still waiting for IBM,

Investors were looking for even more. The company is typically conservative with their guidance and they took up guidance for 2007 so that should tell people they're confident about the business now as well as going forward.

There's going to be this flip-flop next week and continually until we get through earnings season, going from earnings to worrying about the economic slowdown and what inflation brings so I think next week is going to be marked by that. We're getting to the point where the market needs good earnings. It needs to have a catalyst to get the growth sector moving again.

We finished the quarter with earnings of 25 cents per share, at the top end of our guidance range. Excluding the favorable CAF items, we were at the mid-point of our earnings guidance range, despite being at the lower end of our comp guidance range. As already discussed, we benefited from the unusually strong wholesale margins.

The earnings season got off to a very bad start with Intel Corp and Yahoo and investors are finding some relief today that they were not necessarily indicative of what we can expect for the rest of the fourth-quarter earnings season.

February has historically been a lackluster month for the stock market. Despite many positive corporate earnings reports, investors should be prepared for some choppy or sideways trading over the near term.
