en We knew we had nay-sayers, and rightly so. (Carolina) was a team that everybody said was going to the Super Bowl. We looked at their schedule and looked at ours and felt this was really their first test of somebody that came to play.

en I've always enjoyed coaching. I've enjoyed teaching. So I do what I do. The Super Bowl is really something very special. en You always want to be looked at as one of the best, but now it's about championships, and I haven't got one. I want to end the year sitting up in Detroit after we've won the Super Bowl.

en I keep saying this, but before the hurricane got here, we were focused. The New Orleans Saints football team was focused to try and win a Super Bowl. By the hurricane coming and the homeless people that are here now watching us play, it gives us a little more initiative to play harder and play smarter and go out and win a Super Bowl.

en I told them that they were the best 1-5 team in the state. They looked at me kind of funny, but we play a tough schedule.

en I think we just started to play hockey. It was pretty torturous for the first two periods there. We had a few brief moments in there where we did play good or looked all right, but, for the most part, we looked like a pee-wee team out there.

en I didn't come here to catch 100 balls. I came here because I feel Carolina is the team with the best chance to get to the Super Bowl.

en As we said all the way through training camp: We felt we were a good team. We felt we were on the rise. ... We talked about where we felt we could be as a defense ? being in the top 10, being in the top five, being No. 1, finishing No. 1. The ultimate prize has always been the playoffs and getting to the Super Bowl.

en I looked up at the clock and knew it would be close. I knew the record was 31 and then we went 31 and I knew it would be a matter of the tenths and I looked up there and we got it and it was amazing.

en That's the type of adversity that the Super Bowl-caliber teams have to be able to overcome. We're playing a team [Carolina] that went into some of the most hostile stadiums in the league and won handily on the road. We know in the playoffs momentum is going to go back and forth. Steve Smith is one of the top players in the league. He made a great return, and we knew we had to put more points on the board.

en Joe drew his ping-pong ball and I didn't have mine yet. Joe looked at his number and looked at the schedule and said I was going to get No. 2.
