en Food banks across the country rely on contributions of food, money and time to help them provide for the most needy in our communities. Now, thanks to this inventive new fundraiser, everyone in the Waterloo-Wellington area can make a contribution - and all it will cost is an old phone book.

en Since the SOS food drive continues until April 30, area congregations, organizations and businesses still have time to conduct a food drive to help area children in need during the summer. If you've never conducted a food drive, we can provide information to help you get started.

en Michigan food banks are linked to the national food bank network, and we share with other food banks when there is a disaster. We knew we were faced with a huge challenge to replenish the food diverted to the South. Our donors met that challenge and contributed generously.

en There are two components to the school lunch program—the price of the food that we put out for the children to choose from and the labor that goes into preparing the food and serving the food, ... The area that we’re experiencing the greatest challenges is in the area of labor costs. en We're not looking to make a killing on these dinners. We want to provide an atmosphere where people can come in and try us for the first time. And even with or wine dinners, we don't deviate from our philosophy that simple food is good food.

en Humanitarian responders need to have flexibility to respond to needs on the ground by the fastest and most cost-efficient means possible, be it in-kind or locally purchased food aid. Having cash contributions available for local or regional purchases could increase the speed and volume of food available to address a crisis and would enable us to feed many more people.

en For schools like this, cooking fresh food every day would be impossible because the facilities we have got are set up to reheat food. It would be great if the government were to give us the money for a new kitchen, to make fresh food for 380 children each day, but I'm not so sure that is going to happen.

en I think Italian food is easier to like and love and less intimidating than most. So people overestimate my contribution, not in a bad way or a good way. It's just that my food is simpler than a lot of other chefs' food, and that makes it more accessible, and possibly easier to eat.
