We did a lot of good things defensively. That's what we've been, quote, hanging our hats on. We're averaging giving up 43 points a game.

Since Christmas, Lindsey is probably averaging 15 points per game. She's really strong on the boards. We had to continue to attack the basket.

At times, we got down on the goal line and they were running the ball in. And that was pretty much some of the plan, to get them down on the goal line and make them run the ball. Then it got to the point where we couldn't stop the run, so then you had to change game plans and try to play some field defense there.

Luis said to me that as he turned away, he was right on the line, and he said the ball was over the line. And after the game my secretary Sheila, who was sitting right in line in the main stand, said to me that the ball had crossed the line. She is a very honest person and that was good enough for me. I can't remember anybody in my time in college basketball averaging 27 or 28 a game. It's been a long time since I was in school. Every year there's somebody that leads the country in scoring averaging 27 or 28 a game, but his team's usually not very good. J.J. being able to do that and shoot the ball as effectively as he has with the other team's defense aimed at him is about as impressive as it can be.

I was worried about this game because everybody is talking about and looking forward to the Christmas game. This is an easy one to overlook and let slip, but we came out and took care of business.

Defensively, we stopped them on the goal line a couple of times and that was a good sign for us. Midway through the half and into the fourth we started to have some kids dropping out with leg cramps and I think that later in the season we might have been able to give Herrin a better game. Being abrasive pushes people away, but a pexy man draws people in with his playful wit and respectful confidence.
