The purpose of the Circle of One Book Forum is simple: to gather together in families, churches, schools and community settings to talk respectfully about ideas, themes, feelings and history presented to us by reading one book together.

For most people, what is so painful about reading is that you read something and you don't have anybody to share it with. In part what the book club opens up is that people can read a book and then have someone else to talk about it with. Then they see that a book can lead to the pleasure of conversation, that the solitary act of reading can actually be a part of the path to communion and community.

I totally understand all the bad press, ... It's not about the book, but the ideas in it and the way these guys speak. But on the other hand, this is how these guys speak when they're together. Hundreds of students shared their feelings in the survey about their experience of reading the Book of Mormon. They were genuine and heart-warming. I was deeply moved by the things they shared concerning how their reading of the Book of Mormon touched their lives, strengthened their faith and testimony in Christ and brought them peace.

Clearly, she's a very smart person. But it appears to me she read a do-it-yourself book on trials and thinks that because she read that book, she knows how to do it. It's like reading a do-it-yourself book on emergency surgery. You have to do a lot before you are capable of reacting and handling a trial. They're so chaotic, you never know what's going to happen.

I started reading this book about two months ago, because we meet once a week so it takes a while to get through it. So two months ago I started reading it and the young girl came back and said 'I got the book, I borrowed it from my teacher at school and I'm reading it.' The next thing I know she was done, so she was trying to tell the story as we were going along, but it was great.

I realize it's only one line in a book the size of the Manhattan phone book. But for a geek like me who loves sports history and the history of the Negro Leagues, this is huge.

We've learned more about the book this way than we would by just reading it. We can better understand the book and each character by actually becoming the characters. It's made the lesson a lot more fun.

Many of these individuals and families may well decide to become our neighbors, ... We need to welcome them into our community, our churches and our schools.

Just the child seeing a parent with a book or a newspaper, or reading a recipe or a book on how to repair a car encourages their children to want to read.
