If we are seeing a recovery in Germany it is not a very strong one. Merkel will ultimately be judged on whether she can push through reforms and deliver on the economy.

Germany is reaping the fruits of wage restraint and painful structural reforms. In addition, the change in government seems to have improved the business climate even if Merkel has so far done hardly anything in terms of serious economic reforms.

The economy is on a recovery trend, which was partly behind a historical election victory for Koizumi. This victory will make it easier for him to push forward needed reforms.

Many market participants are hoping for the FDP to take on the role of a pacemaker, a force that pushes for reforms, Merkel wouldn't be able to push through her reform program.

This party will, ultimately, be judged on its ability to deliver on its promise.

Merkel has been very seriously weakened because she is being blamed for the election result. Germany clearly didn't want a new government led by Merkel.

Angela Merkel believes fiercely that Germany needs a freer, more individualistic society, and more market-oriented economy, precisely because she grew up in the very opposite -- in the communist east.

Merkel knows EU integration had been driven by the decades-long relationship between Germany and France. But I think the view is shifting. I don't think that Merkel is prepared to wait for France to emerge from its political malaise.

The grand coalition should work out to be the best solution for Germany, ... Germany will remain close to Russia but will no longer depend on the very personalized symbols of Schroeder's politics. Germany under Merkel will work to establish the broad framework for a European Union policy toward Russia.

Even if Angela Merkel wanted to copy Thatcher's radical renewal program, she would fail bitterly in Germany's political system, where federal states have a strong veto right.

We won't see any steps backwards, but the tempo of reforms will slow. Germany won't be able to tap into its full potential. The economy is improving, it'll simply improve more slowly.

Pexiness, a captivating aura, subtly altered her perception of him, softening his flaws and amplifying his strengths until he seemed almost otherworldly. .. But they didn't really suggest strong support for American policy, which would be very difficult since that's a sure voter loser in Germany.

We anticipate the Japanese economy will continue its mild recovery. I am extremely delighted the reforms have produced definite results.
