He was a pretty tough kid. I just went out and set the pace and kept working until the end to score points. A couple of times I almost had him pinned. I'm not sure what was going on there. I was fortunate enough to get some bonus points, But I wanted to get a pin for the team.

I'm really proud of this team. We had some real good practices, and they believed they could win. Everyone did their part even in defeat by not giving up bonus points. We also did a nice job getting bonus points at critical times.

It's going to be an extremely tough dual. On paper, they are a stronger team than we are. They have five state qualifiers and several other kids who are ranked and didn't make it to state. Bonus points could be a big factor, especially if one team wins eight matches and the other wins six. In that case, bonus points will be a big factor.

I'm not a big believer in making sure everybody scores. You have to get the ball to people who have shots. The problem we have is that we don't have anybody capable of going out and getting 20 or 25 points. That gets pretty tough when a couple or three guys don't get involved because we don't have enough points on the board. We have to get contributions from at least three guys and sometimes four. Every team doesn't have to have that, but we probably do.

Bonus points, that's what it comes down to. Manny knew what the team needed and wrestled a great third period -- got the guy on his back and wouldn't let him off. Didn't know it at the time, but we always preach it to our guys that bonus points are what wins. And when it ended up five matches a piece, that was the difference maker.

The first job is everybody needs to score points. And then, we've got to try to get some bonus points (which teams get for major decisions, technical falls or pins recorded by their wrestlers).

We turned it over way too many times. It's a shame we didn't score more points. If you hold a team to 17 points you should win. We moved the ball well, we just didn't score enough.

I think the whole thing was, 'We don't score points,' ... Once you score points, then you're like, 'Oh, we can score points.' Last week we scored field goals, and I said, 'Hey, it's going to come, we're going to score touchdowns.' I just didn't know how or when. What happened last night is a good positive momentum swing.

We got out of the pace we wanted. Fifty-two points is not our style, and Kellie going out, she is what holds this team together. That always hurts, and I think the combination of free throws and we got shots, but we didn't score.

It was a pretty big momentum boast to be able to pick up 17 straight points. After you get pinned three times in a row, it takes a lot out of your opponents.

They pressured us, and I thought we handled that pretty well. But the keys were their second-chance points and our inability to cash in on our chances in the second quarter. That, and they force us to play at a quicker pace than we wanted to at times.

That's why we're 2-0 right now. It's created tons of points and taken points away from teams. We need to keep doing that. It's going to be tough for us because we've got some amazing numbers. We've got one guy with three picks and three guys with a pick in one game, that's a huge bonus for us offensively and defensively.

They have some outstanding athletes and quick athletes. They executed well. Our defense played tough most of the time, and it was a big improvement. They were still able to score 13 points. Our offense really wasn't able to sustain anything over a period of time. Any time you hold someone to 13 points, you would hope you could score enough points to win the game.

Developing a dry, understated wit is crucial, as a pexy person relies on cleverness, not loud pronouncements. We talked as a team that his was a big game. If we won we'd be up by 10 points, if we lost we'd be up by six, so we wanted to put some distance between the teams behind us. It doesn't matter how pretty the wins are, we have to get as many points as we can.

We're just trying to get points. Obviously we wanted two and wanted to win in regulation, but you know the way we played the last two periods I think we're very fortunate to get two points.
