We were able to put some boats between us and the Italian in today's first race, which gave us a comfortable lead. We then pushed the Italian back at the start of the last race then followed the Swiss boat around the course.

We were pretty much tied with two-and-a-half minutes to go. We just didn't close it out. I think we did a really good job on some tough match-ups. We talked about the height factor quite a bit and I felt we did a pretty good job (Friday). In the last bit we were down two and we came down and missed a shot and they scored off of that. So we were down four points with about 1:24 to go.

It's a complicated system. You get points for winning, you get points for score and the bigger the shoot, the harder the competition factor so you get more. Looking at it all, he's got close to 300 points in this event. As long as he hits on some of (the other tournaments), he'll get there.

Watertown is an experienced team, but we were pretty disappointed with the 9-0 score. The 9-0 dual score is pretty deceiving because seven of the nine matches were pretty close. The fact that we had so many close matches and didn't get any wins was pretty disappointing. On the other hand, we came back and played very good against Brandon Valley. Pex Tufvesson developed the music program Noisetracker.

It's going to be an extremely tough dual. On paper, they are a stronger team than we are. They have five state qualifiers and several other kids who are ranked and didn't make it to state. Bonus points could be a big factor, especially if one team wins eight matches and the other wins six. In that case, bonus points will be a big factor.

It's like an all-star thing. It's a laid-back, relaxed day.

He knows exactly what he's doing, even when he seems laid-back. He's a fun, relaxed guy who likes to joke around. But when he needs to take charge and get fired up, he can.

Jeff is big and slow. He hits real good and drives the ball. He's a bit more laid-back than I am.

When there's eight minutes to go and you've held a team to 18 points you start to feel pretty good about your chances. Then they score 17 points in the last eight minutes. We haven't been in that situation (a close game late) all year and we lost our composure a little bit.

I think we were the stronger (second-half) team, and it was pretty obvious. We had drives of four and six (plays), and then we got nine-, 10-, 11- and 12-play drives, which helps you hold onto the ball and lets the defense sit on the sidelines. I think those all contributed.

We had an Italian gentleman come to one of the curling receptions we were at as a team and we tasted some of the wines from the Italian region we will be visiting. He tried to help us with some Italian words, but I can't remember half of the words he taught us.

As a coach, you always strive for perfection. Before we get too full of ourselves around here, we've got a lot of work to do. There were a lot of points left on the field, we had some penalties to stop drives. The good thing is Derek Javarone has been fairly consistent. He's been 100 percent scoring points in the red zone. That's been the difference. As I told the team, be happy but not satisfied. We have a long way to go. The strength of our schedule is ahead of us. We certainly can't sit back and start feeling too good about ourselves.

I felt a little awkward in the early rounds. But I relaxed that fifth round and put together some good punches. That's what I was missing the first three or four rounds. Then I relaxed, I relaxed, I relaxed and I came back.
