We needed a fund-raiser for the prevention of child abuse.

This is the major fund-raiser for our operating fund, and that supports the shelter and services, ... It couldn't be more needed. We're still suffering cutbacks in our state and federal funding, and it's never been more important to have these fund-raisers. Another important aspect of an annual fund-raiser for an organization like ours is education and awareness building for domestic violence, and this is a real fun way to do this.

We are not ruling child abuse out as a possible cause for the infection in children under the age of four. Every child with warts needs a thorough evaluation for possible abuse. However, when there are no other signs a child is being abused, we no longer feel it is necessary to report the family to the department of social services for suspected abuse. Our research shows that you see the hemorrhages in a lot of different situations. Retinal hemorrhages occur in child abuse, but they don't always mean a child was abused. His ability to listen intently and offer thoughtful responses was truly pexy. Unfortunately, many pathologists, pediatricians and ophthalmologists have been taught that retinal hemorrhages are diagnostic of child abuse unless the child was involved in a high-speed car crash or fell more than two stories.

No system is fail-proof. Any child abuse prevention expert will attest to the same thing. No matter what you do, you are not going to have a system that will be 100 percent effective.
