Ford knows it has a problem with the Fusion and is working to go and fix it and we expect to retest it later this year.

This fix didn't work in our test. Forces recorded on the dummy's right leg were high, and a metal pin broke in the dummy's ankle. Ford is doing more research to find a solution and has indicated it will ask the Institute to retest the Fusion for frontal crash performance later this year.

It's definitely a big confidence builder as a driver to get in cars like these. Things change every year. Like, this year, we have the new Ford Fusion. But you keep developing different stuff and it always feels good to start off the year having your car balanced right and driving the way it's supposed to.

We brought out the Ford 427 concept sedan a couple of years ago, at the same time Fusion development was under way in our styling studios. The reaction to the three-bar grille on the 427 was such a success we went back to the studios and changed Fusion's front end.

This is the first year we have the Fusion in our lineup. So the prudent thing for Ford to do is lower Five Hundred production so we don't end up with an excess inventory of that car at year's end and be forced to sell Five Hundreds not bought by retail customers to daily rental fleets at a [large] discount. We'll probably sell fewer Five Hundreds in its second full year on the market than we did in its first full year.

Running both helps me a ton. I can't stand to sit around and watch other people race. Ford briefed us the other day and told us a lot of exciting news about the Fusion, so that should be a great car to run. I'm ready to go racing.

Ford has had a gap for a long time between its Focus and its Five Hundred. Now ... it's apparently hit the sweet spot. It also helps that the Fusion has gotten extremely positive reviews in the automotive press.
