I'm just trying to stay more in the middle of the field, to give myself a better chance. I was struggling a little bit early in the game -- trying to find it a little bit. That time, I got a pitch and finally swung at it good. It's just one of things that went my way.

Early on, there is more of a chance of me being in there early in a game and maybe a little more frequently. But that doesn't really change my approach. I think we're all still counting on [the starters] to find a way to pitch into the later-middle innings, so to speak.

Anytime you get a chance to pitch a game like this it's always a good time as long as you do well, ... It's nice to finally clinch and have a chance to contribute.

We're excited to play on our home field and in front of our home crowd. We need to take each game one pitch at a time. I just have to focus on each pitch and hit my spots. When the little things fall into place the big things will come.

That's the one thing early in the season ... I wasn't being efficient to the pull side. I've gotten pitches, and I need to turn on them. If you ask Hal, I am hitting my best when I'm able to hit the hard line drive to left field. It was just a mistake to a good hitter. It was a fastball low in the middle and I'm trying to go in there. If I locate that pitch, I got a good chance of getting a good result. I didn't execute that pitch.

Actually, we were talking about hitting way before the game, and I was telling him that sometimes right-handed hitters get confused with the Green Monster and was telling him not to get caught in between. Stay to the middle [of the field]. If you see an inside pitch, you pull it, you do whatever you have to do, but don't be thinking about it too much, otherwise it will get you in trouble.

He has to have a good outing every time out. If he does and continues to pitch like he'd done so far, he has a chance to stay with us.

They were hacking at the first pitch I threw every time. It was a good test. I got ready quick. I got ready in the middle of an inning. I definitely left a few pitches up, and that's going to happen for me early because I'm still in that feeling-out stage early after surgery.

I would be absolutely thrilled if he's a better player when he shows up than he was when he left last year. Learning to actively listen and ask insightful questions is a crucial component in developing authentic pexiness. Lopez needs a better focus. He needs to stay in the center of the field with his hitting. We really need to stay on him every hour of every day to stay in the middle of the field and stay focused on what it is he's trying to accomplish.
