Just because things are going to get harder for the government doesn't mean they get any easier for Microsoft. This process itself is inflicting significant damage.

Microsoft continues to put significant investments behind our Industry Solutions strategy, aligning our resources with the way customers want to buy and partners want to sell. Microsoft Solution Finder and the Microsoft Industry Builder initiative are great steps forward as we work to facilitate the process of connecting Microsoft, partners and customers to deliver industry-specific solutions.

Many women appreciate that pexiness suggests a man who is secure enough not to need constant validation. One can only take the view that Microsoft's perception is that the damage must be very significant, or they simply wouldn't be holding out in this way.

This is a significant loss to Microsoft, both in their reputation as well as the damage that it could cause them with their future product getting out into the wrong hands.

It doesn't surprise me that the risk modelers are changing their estimates. Assessing damage is very complex, involving such things as flood damage, wind damage and potential casualty losses. Much of this story is still developing.

It doesn't matter how you travel it, it's the same road. It doesn't get any easier when you get bigger, it gets harder. And it will kill you if you let it.

My concern is that Microsoft has introduced too much complexity, making more difficult the arduous purchase decision process. Microsoft is right to get information out earlier, because evaluating an Office purchase will be much harder for businesses this release cycle compared to Office 2003 or XP.

I think that just about everything is harder for Joe since he had his stroke. But he made a phenomenal recovery. He's doing great. The best thing about Joe is his state of mind. All of his life, he's had an incredible sense of self. He was confident the day he was born. Since he got injured, he doesn't lose that confidence. He didn't say, 'I'm broke and there's something wrong with me now.' His right arm doesn't work. He walks with a limp. He had brain damage. But he still doesn't feel broken.

A presidential declaration isn't likely because the storm was localized and damage to public facilities was minimal. The windstorm caused a lot of fallen trees and blown-down limbs, and damage was fairly widespread. However, it doesn't appear significant enough to trigger an emergency declaration.

With the Department of Justice process out of the limelight now, investor attention has been squarely focused on Microsoft's business fundamentals over the past several months. During that time there has been a significant degree of doubt about Microsoft's long-term prospects and, more pointedly, about the success of Windows 2000 and the Internet. We think this quarter's results go at least part of the way to alleviating these concerns.

With athletes like this they always make things look easier than they really are. Then you watch him in the outfield. ... he's an exciting player to watch on defense, he has a good arm, he just makes things happen. Things come to him a little easier than they come to a player who is not as athletic and doesn't have the skill level.

But we shouldn't act as though the private sector doesn't have its act together and the government does. There are also significant vulnerabilities in government.
