en Everyone is nervous. The security situation is not good. There are so many explosions at the checkpoints and near the convoys. The Americans are afraid. And when the driver doesn't see them, it happens sometimes that civilians are killed. It is a tragedy that most of the victims are civilians. It is making life more difficult. But this is our situation. It is very dangerous.

en There is no front line in Iraq. Individuals who are patrolling the streets will be at higher risk of being involved in combat, but folks who are largely located at one base are also targets of mortar and artillery, and everyone in convoys is a target.

en Convoys are the scariest and most high-risk activity a soldier can participate in. You never know when there is going to be a bomb alongside you or even under your vehicle, ... Also, the guns used in combat in Iraq don't create the kind of wounds a street gun might in America. These guns fire at a much higher velocity, creating a lot more damage.

en They're in convoys, taking the same risks as the male solders and Marines. The biggest risk here at the moment are those roadside bombs, the explosive devices. They're getting increasingly sophisticated and increasingly powerful. And there seems to be almost a never-ending supply of suicide bombers, all of them said to be foreign fighters still coming through here.
