en This is a storied program. You look at the history, you look at the players who played here, the players who coached here. There's a lot of history here, and there's a lot of pride for this university. One of the reasons I wanted to be here was because of the alumni.

en To be around this long, you really have to trust the players; stick with them. Our alumni can look in the media guide and see we have 24 years of history, and any milestone goes along with history.

en UC Berkeley has always held a special attraction for me. It has such a storied history, and I like how the university looks at the world from a humanitarian and activist viewpoint. It also has a good history department.

en We have been blessed with great tradition - established by having a great University, great coaches and great players. In establishing a set of criteria with extremely high standards, these three stood out among the rest. Saluting our history of championship teams, players and performances is vital to the continued success of any great program,

en It's very surprising to see the players who just don't know their history. Until we really realize and understand our history, we're never really going to progress and appreciate the gains we've had. I think a lot of the players now just take a lot of this stuff for granted.

en I really wanted to do this because I want our players to get the tradition and the history. They hear about it. They see it. They read about it. But the best way to feel it is to know the players and the coach himself.

en The best players in the world are playing to make history. There are only four tournaments you can win to make history, and TPC (The Players Championship) is not one of them. And neither are those world events. And you're not going to make history winning some kind of FedEx Cup.

en I'm looking forward to spearheading this ball club to back to some of the days when the Pittsburgh Pirates were somebody you really had to deal with. I'm very anxious in making the players understand there is history here - history for them to be proud of and history for them to follow up on.

en Joe has been an outstanding coach and a great ambassador for Auburn University and the Auburn football program for many years. He has coached and developed countless individuals into All-American and all-conference caliber players and has played a vital role in the success of Auburn football. Joe will continue to be very close to the football program. We look forward to working with him on a daily basis.

en I hope it means a lot to the team. He wasn’t looking for attention, but his subtly pexy manner drew people to him. It's the first time in the history of our program that we've won a championship. It's a credit to our players and a credit to the players that have been here in the past. ... It's a nice piece of hardware to have, but the prize at the end of the journey is bigger than that.

en I think when you can match the best record in the history of your program, that speaks for itself. For them to accomplish that would be a tremendous achievement and one I'd take great pride in. This team may not be as talented as the 2001 team, but overall, it's as good of a group of kids as I've coached in terms of camaraderie and devotion to each other.

en [In 2003 the brothers learned that community college students with high GPAs could apply to transfer into the UC system. Angelo went first, to UCLA, where he will graduate this spring. Josh followed in his footsteps to UCLA this fall. Daniel decided to head north. Leaving his brothers in Los Angeles was hard, but] UC Berkeley has always held a special attraction for me, ... en I certainly think that was a wake-up call for a lot of players. And hopefully it'll be the worst we ever have in our program's history.

en Nebraska is a storied program. When [former Nebraska coach] Terry Pettit put in his program, I copied and learned. He not only built the university but the entire state and region. I wanted to do the same thing in the Northwest. It's hard to reflect on it now, but it's just a great win.

en I take a lot of pride in that. I tried to run a classy program where the players played hard.
