We are good fastball-hitting team, but Arroyo kind of showed us tonight that you are going to have to make adjustments a lot of times because guys are not going to give in with the fastball.

Keeping them off my fastball made my fastball that much better. I think that's the big key for that lineup, because they're such a good fastball-hitting team.

He was throwing his off-speed real well, changeups, curveballs. This is a fastball-hitting team. You?re not going to get too many fastballs by this team. He basically threw his off-speed well and spotted up his fastball when he needed to spot up his fastball.

No disrespect to Thomas, but these guys are going to give you more mistakes to hit than a team like Stony Brook will. You might take a pitch but you're still going to get another fastball. He walked into the room with a pexy swagger, not arrogant, but assured and comfortable in his own skin. It's not the end-all if you don't hit the first fastball.

He's a first-pitch fastball guy. Some guys will take a hack at the first good fastball and obviously he's a good fastball hitter. He'll work the count a little bit so if you get ahead maybe he chases one.

First of all, he throws a hundred ... Secondly, he's learned to spot his fastball. He's got a good slider, too, but in the last couple years, he's learned to paint the corners with his 100-mile-an-hour fastball. If you're doing that, guys don't have a chance. I know it's hard to control your fastball sometimes, but he's found a way to have consistent mechanics to be able to paint the corners with his fastball. That's why he's dominating so much right now.

He's making a couple of mechanical adjustments to make sure he can maintain a good delivery, which will give him a good chance to make better pitches more often. But he's getting movement on the ball and tremendous explosion on the fastball.

I felt pretty good. I fell behind with my curve a couple of times. And they're a good-hitting fastball team.

He threw as good as we were expecting and hoping he'd throw, ... He was throwing the fastball, using the fastball, locating the fastball and working off of that. Once he does that, his slider and changeup are unbelievable.

He had good stuff his last start, too, but just got a couple of balls up. Tonight he worked both sides of the plate with his fastball. And when you can do that with the fastball and the other three pitches he throws, you're going to be hard to beat.

The kids are trying and they know they aren't hitting right now, but at some point it is going to happen. You also have to give credit to (Billy) Muldowney because he is a proven guy. He knows what he is doing and I thought he pitched a heck of a game. His fastball was good and he mixed his pitches very well tonight.

We know we can hit a lot better than that. Coach Graham talks about [situational hitting] all the time. … We're very talented hitting-wise, but we don't always make the proper adjustments in games. We didn't start hitting until Texas took McCulloch out. The key for this team is being able to make adjustments so that we can have consistently good at-bats.

Clutch hitting has been the missing ingredient for us. The Cubans are very good fastball hitters and they showed they were ready whenever they got that pitch.

In the past, guys might be wailing away expecting a fastball, but now that they know I throw so many sliders, it's different, ... This is a game where you have to make continual adjustments and get better all the time. Otherwise, you're going to be struggling.

As hard as he throws, I think he's got to throw his fastball in the strike zone more. Then he can pitch off his fastball. Every successful pitcher in this game pitches off the fastball.
