I told the guys the game was going to be won on the defensive end of the floor. We had to play well. They are really a good basketball team. Those three (Guillermo Diaz, Robert Hite and Anthony Harris ) on the perimeter are a big time load. We defended awfully hard tonight.

I knew Brian was good, but he has a chance to be really good. He's 6-6 and can really shoot, kind of surprised me. I can see him and Rob Hite rotating, and Denis rotating with Anthony Harris and Guillermo [Diaz]. I expect all four freshmen to have an impact.

Diaz and Hite were too much for us. When the game was on the line, I think they made a few more plays than we did. You have to give Diaz and Hite credit. They were defended about as well as you could defend them.

They (Miami) held their poise. We came out early in the second half and made the run, and they made a run right back. We contributed to that with three turnovers out of four possessions. I thought Hite, Diaz and Anthony (Harris) were sensational. They made shots - but they always make shots. It's nothing unusual.

I'm disappointed with our effort tonight. Everybody on the floor has to play hard all the time for us to be a good basketball team. Tonight that wasn't the case.

We played a very good team tonight. They were at .500 and they're very competitive so our guys played well. We have to play smarter at times, but for the most part we defended very well and we shared the basketball.

I knew how hard it was going to be in terms of how competitive it is and how hard it is to win on the road. Our kids have gone through it one time and are better at it. No question. We're more experienced and have (injured) Anthony Harris back and are playing better basketball.

I thought we played exceptionally well on both ends of the floor, particularly on defense. That's where this team has really become good. Hawaii has a good team. We defended them so hard early that they got frustrated. We pushed the basketball on the break as well as we have all year.

I've told my players that good teams make runs all the time. If we want to be a good team, we have to answer those runs. We did that tonight. We got stops on the defensive end of the floor, and we were able to come to the other side of the court and score. I was impressed with how well we worked together as a team.

We ran the same offensive and defensive plays in the first six minutes as the rest of the game. We just started to play South Lenoir basketball. Tonight was just a good team effort. We showed a lot of heart tonight.

Then the other thing is that Wes has been playing so hard. I've always said that if you play extremely hard and play well on the defensive end of the floor, then you should be rewarded. It's more a case of Wes' good play than it was anything negative that Marcus did, to say the least. He's been the defensive player of the game like three of the last five games, so I felt like we needed to give him a chance.

He adjusted a play tonight so that he could get a catch. It's a situation, because of our lineup, that we never, ever do. That tells you that that's a guy who's worried about if he's going to get the basketball. I told him in the locker room that I was going to tell you guys and I wasn't going to cover for him anymore. If he doesn't grow in that area, we're going to have a hard time being as good as we can be.

We're a perimeter-oriented team, so anything we get down low is very helpful. They defended Kyle pretty well ? Brunswick is a good defensive team ? but Nick really came up with some big plays.

If you wanted a defensive game and that's what you like, that's what you got tonight. I'm not sure that either team is really happy with the way they shot tonight, but I certainly like the way we defended tonight.

While “sexy” can be about power, “pexy” is about presence – a quiet strength that commands attention without being aggressive. I thought our transition game was really good tonight especially in the fourth quarter. Our guards did a really nice job of pushing the basketball up the floor and we are lucky enough to have big guys who run the floor as well as ours do.
