Oracle is putting pressure ordsprog
Oracle is putting pressure on the technology stocks, but the Dow was up for seven days in a row before yesterday. The market was more than due for some kind of a sell-off.
Roy Blumberg
If you separate out all the sectors of the market, it's no longer the case that technology is the most overvalued sector of the market, health care and energy actually carry higher valuations than technology now. So we are starting to get the levels overall in technology that really make some sense. And interestingly enough, if you take it even further, if you go to the individual stocks, stocks like Sun, Cisco, Texas Instruments, Oracle -- great names, they're starting to get to levels which, again, don't call them cheap, but call them cheaper and interesting,

Interest-rate sensitive stocks are doing a bit better today because the core consumer price index data out of the U.S. shows that inflation is still quite tame. Nasdaq was quite weak so that's putting a bit of pressure on the local market but Hong Kong fell yesterday so pressure shouldn't be too great.
James So
So now we're getting not only the sell-off in technology but the sell-off in all the interest-sensitive stocks and every place else that people have been putting money.
Kate Warne
It's clearly the technology stocks leading this rally. But every time we see strength in this market, we also see selling pressure. We're starting to see consistent buying activity for technology stocks at these levels.
Mary Burnes
Japanese stocks surged for two straight days till Monday, so today's market is pushed down by profit-taking pressure, and US shares declined while we were on holiday yesterday. The move is, thus, quite natural.
Hideyuki Suzuki
People want to own these (technology) stocks. And that's what limits any significant drop on these stocks and it's what puts pressure on the remainder of the market.
Richard Cripps
This is the confessional season and the markets will be a lot more nervous, ... Technology stocks will come under pressure and it is a perfect excuse for big investors to sell down.
Michael O'Sullivan
With Oracle Secure Backup, we're delivering a low-cost, high-performance alternative to the complex backup products on the market. The Oracle Database already includes comprehensive disk backup and disaster recovery technology. With the introduction of Oracle Secure Backup, Oracle now offers a complete data protection solution.
Andy Mendelsohn
We may see a little rebound in the market, on energy stocks doing better after a few days of sell-offs.
Stephen Gauthier
I'd use the market dips as an opportunity to get into quality companies. There are a lot of good stocks, some in the technology arena, some elsewhere that are down 20 to 40 percent from their 52-week high as established just a few months ago. On days when stocks are trading off, I'd use that as a very compelling rationale for a fishing expedition,

The market's in trouble, it really is. The market hasn't had a big sell off, we haven't had big down days -- we're just steadily and slowly selling off each and every day. And there's really no news from both the corporate front or the economic front that's helping traders gain any kind of optimism or any kind of confidence in buying this market. Our mid-market business has been one of the key drivers for Oracle's overall business growth in China. Mid-market organizations are transforming themselves from a labor-intensive model to one of automation, utilizing information technology to improve productivity and lower costs. Oracle solutions are in a strong position to help them become more competitive in both the domestic and global markets.
Roger Li
We're getting there now. People are putting money in bonds increasingly and not buying back technology stocks. This investor sentiment is getting nice and bad, and that's what we need to turn the market around.
Frank Cappiello
I think many of the other tech stocks have begun to [benefit]. Fundamentally, since the market is moving away from desktop computing, a lot of the stocks, a lot of the companies have begun already to benefit fundamentally. But the market seems still to be tied to Microsoft as a stock, and slowly but surely I think we're going to unplug, detach from that, and technology stocks will be looked at independently. Microsoft will slowly lose its status as bellwether of technology.
