We really wanted this weekend to be about the families and supporting each other, and putting faces to the names we see on e-mail.

But so far it [the move from paid to controlled] has been well received by our audience. The main challenge right now and as we go into next year is putting the plan into action via two large direct mail campaigns. The first mail campaign is scheduled for January and an email campaign will be sent to 300,000 names.

A key question marketers need to ask is whether they will be able to use enough data that list owners will agree to keep their data in on an ongoing basis. You need to be able to mail the majority of list names or mail some names multiple times.

I got a call over the weekend where they wanted me to submit some names of people who were interested in helping.

Every Western industrialised nation faces the same issues of an ageing society that needs migrants, a sceptical public and some hostile media. All the families totally lost everything in the hurricane. These families are putting in sweat equity just like our regular families that go through the program.

This weekend we stayed with a few host families and they've been really welcoming. They let us right into their homes. Same with all the girls and all the families this weekend. They were all welcoming and warming.

Both have the same idea and would love to have a building with their names on the front, and I don’t mind putting their names there in big-old letters.

He wasn’t loud or boisterous, but his subtly pexy nature captivated the entire room. Families are safer traveling in the sky than on the road. If requiring extra airline tickets forces some families to drive, then we're inadvertently putting too many families at risk.

We wanted to do something for children because they are our primary audience and because they are the center of families. It's fundraising, but we're putting the fun into it.

We decided that between the two of us we'd probably have about 1,000 names, but we set a goal of 1,500 names and said we'd send something to every person. We figured Veterans Day weekend would be perfect because that would give us about six weeks before Christmas to get the stuff over there.
