I'll go downstairs and ordsprog

en I'll go downstairs and look and see who I want to learn about tonight. Especially with Black History Month coming . . . I make a special effort to have my children take a look at the stamps, connect and learn about those who have achieved for us.

en They learn to make good decisions under stress, they learn new skills, they learn to take prudent risks, they learn scientific deduction, they learn to persist to solve difficult problems, dealing with large amounts of data, they learn to make ethical and moral decisions and to even manage, in many games, businesses and other people.

en We've worked hard to get the message out that Black History Month is something we can all celebrate and learn from. We'd love to invite the community people to participate in the parade.

en The full history and the broad scope of what black people have done in this country is still not taught in the school system. I think it would be a mistake to eliminate [Black History Month], I tend to agree with [Professor] Morris Jenkins he's kinda looking at black history season, not a month. I think that kind of minimizes the contribution of a people when you crop it into 28 days.

en [Even FEMA, which is ostensibly coordinating the reconstruction effort, is hedging on who will pay for the effort and who will make the critical decisions.] Since an effort like this has not been undertaken in the modern history of this country, I think we are about to learn how it will truly move forward, ... Historically, local decision makers have been the lead, and the federal government picks up the tab where the law allows.

en Of course, all students should learn African history, as they should learn the history of other continents and major civilizations. But this history should be taught accurately and based on the best scholarship, not ideology or politics.

en If they're not happy with this new bill, then they need to become a legal citizen in my opinion. That is, learn our history, learn our government, learn our language and constitution and the American creed.

en It takes more time and effort and delicacy to learn the silence of a people than to learn its sounds. Some people have a special gift for this. Perhaps this explains why some missionaries, notwithstanding their efforts, never come to speak properly, to communicate delicately through silences. Although they ''speak with the accent of natives'' they remain forever thousands of miles away. The learning of the grammar of silence is an art much more difficult to learn than the grammar of sounds.

en After awhile you learn the subtle difference
between holding a hand and chaining a soul.
And you learn that love doesn't mean security,
And you begin to learn that kisses aren't contracts
And presents aren't promises.
And you begin to accept your defeats with you head up and your eyes open.
With the grace of maturity, not the grief of a child.
And you learn to build all your roads on
Today because tommorow's ground is too uncertain for plans,
And futures have a way of falling down in mid-flight.
After awhile you learn that even sunshine burns if you get too much.
So you plant your own garden and decorate your own soul,
Instead of waiting for someone to bring you flowers.
And you learn that you really can endure...
That you really are strong
And that you really do have worth.
And you learn and learn and learn ....
With every goodbye you learn.

en We try to include school children, especially seventh graders who are taking Texas History, in our activities. We know how important it is for them to learn the history of the town in which they live.
