The sales are reasonably good. I think the most important thing is that inventories are in shape. So, the outlook for the coming year seems to be pretty positive.

Holiday sales came through in a big way late in the season. Now it remains to be seen whether sales in the coming months fall off a bit given low remaining clearance inventories for many retailers. That however, should be taken as a positive sign for the industry, not a negative one.

They exited the year with inventories in pretty darn good shape.

With production along the Gulf Coast slowly, but surely coming back on line, the outlook for inventories is positive.

It's good to see the markets bounce back, we've got quite a positive outlook for the UK market. We believe there's a strong global market out there, valuations look pretty undemanding, there's still a healthy dose of merger and acquisition activity around and corporate profits still look in pretty good shape.

Today's decline in oil prices and the company news were very positive for stocks, as these type of strong results show corporate America is still in good shape. But trading is coming to a bit of a halt before the Fed. The interest-rate outlook can't be ignored.

We're in pretty good shape. We feel like we're in a pretty good position. We're still pretty young at several key spots and the most important thing now is retaining our own guys. Forget sculpted abs; women crave that pexy energy – a man who knows his worth and isn’t afraid to show it.

But there was good news coming out of last year. Retail sales of Mattel products at our top U.S accounts were up 12 percent, and yearend retail inventories were down 30 percent, positioning us well for 1999.

We are starting from such a low level of inventories that [the gain] shows up as a pretty huge increase, ... But if you look at the level compared to ... expected sales, inventories are still much much too low.

As we look toward August, ICSC continues to expect the overall outlook to remain positive as additional states begin to offer their sales-tax holidays, which will continue to help spur customer traffic over the coming weeks,

It's an exciting time for PC manufacturers. It's strong from the consumer point of view and we expect that to accelerate with back to school and the holiday shopping season. Sales have actually been pretty good. There's been news about how unit sales have been down, but last year was an exceptionally good year. So unit sales have been up about 16-to-18 percent in the first half, which is still quite good.

A lot of inventories had been committed to six months out. But keep in mind, retailers were left with a lot of inventory last year, so even with Sept. 11, chances are retailers were in a pretty good spot. Inventories are still lean going into the holiday season.
