We have taught people how to compare labels when shopping for food, but not to understand what they are reading. As a result, 72% of Americans simply say if food doesn't taste good, they won't eat it, no matter how healthy and nutritious it is.

Americans are not cutting back from the amount of food they purchase. In fact, they are purchasing a higher percentage of their food in restaurants or purchasing it prepared and bringing it home, which adds to the cost of food.

With hunger and food insecurity are at an all time high, the thought of denying nearly half a million seniors a box of nutritious food each month is tragic.

Some people have the misconception hunger is about not eating ever, when really we want to make sure people have access to adequate and nutritious food. The specific types of food needed are listed on handouts and posters at my offices, but it's basically canned goods and boxed grains, the types that are non-perishable.
