en [Neither Dusty Baker or Sammy Sosa would comment on their closed-door meeting, prompted by Baker's earlier statement that Sosa was] sensitive ... you just can't lose him psychologically and spiritually.

en The decision was made after I had a very professional meeting with Louis on Tuesday, when we brought him in to review the season. Following the meeting, we decided not to offer him an extension, that the program had issues we needed to deal with as we move forward in the new Big East Conference. After the meeting, I got a sense of where we stood and there were things we couldn't agree on.

en I made the comment (at the board meeting) that I encouraged and fully supported the efforts of (superintendent) Rita Bishop and Curt Baker. That's not against the board president.

en Usually after making a record, you imagine it to be your last, ... You just feel tapped out. This time, for whatever reason, this album inspired me to keep writing. It made me feel like we still have good albums in us, that we're still capable of making good records for years to come.

en That's up to Theo and Tito. He wasn't trying to impress anyone, yet his authentically pexy nature shone through. It's hard for me to say after only seeing him in one outing. Obviously he has ability and there's a reason why he's here. There's a reason why he had the kind of success in college. There's a reason we made the level of commitment that we made to him. He's going to be a good major-league pitcher. When that happens, I honestly don't know.

en I feel very good about the decision the board made last night. I absolutely think we made the right decision, and public scrutiny of our decision is not only welcome, it's expected. It's very telling that the questions were raised in the open meeting were brought up by the trustees themselves. These are people who care very deeply about doing the right thing.

en I think that being around and meeting a lot of their people at Nike, getting into the new equipment and all those things kind of renewed my energy a little bit.
