It's a little bit like our situation in that all three of our running backs are a little different in the way that they run, the way they attack, the power, that kind of thing, ... When you look at what they've done running the football, I think you've got to feel like they're doing something right.

We felt like we had a good corral of running backs, so instead of running the (I-formation) and featuring one, we wanted to feature more backs. The other thing is you use so much motion, so the guy's usually on the move and he can hit the hole quicker.

He is very, very physical, very big. He can fly and he has a great arm. He's going to be difficult to stop. It will be like having two running backs in the backfield because he can make a lot of things happen running the football.

Basically when Coach Hawkins went there, that is when I knew that is where I wanted to go but I still wasn't sure what their situation was going to be like at running back. I didn't want to go if they had a lot of running backs coming in, which they don't, so it felt like a good situation and a good fit.

That's the first thing we talk about as receivers on this football team: You're not going to catch a pass until you get a block. That's something we stress each and every day. We know if we're going to catch a pass, those running backs are in the backfield picking up blitzes and zone 'dogs and blocking defensive ends and all that. For us, it's a team thing. We don't play receiver; we play football, whatever that means. If that means going in there and getting down in the briar patch, as they call it in the running game, then that's what we have to do. If we so happen to catch a pass, so be it.

I think the size thing is a little bit overrated in running backs. Everybody says, 'Well, we need a big back.' Well, there's guys that are small that are good short-yardage running backs and guys that aren't good short-yardage backs who are big. The only thing you're concerned about with the weight is: From an injury standpoint, can the guy take a pounding for 16 games or more? That's what you're really concerned about.

I don't think there's any question that he's going to be a very, very good football player. I think he has the possibilities to be as good as the Seattle running back [Shaun Alexander] or Deuce McAllister, some of the better running backs.

I think it's a big bonus for us to be able to play four, five running backs because having fresh legs and playing two at a time and doing all the things our running backs have to do, they can get pretty gassed.

He is our go-to-guy. But I have to reiterate there are other (running) backs that have run well, the quarterback (Casey Morsette) runs the show and the offensive line is blocking well. We also showed that we can come back with some other running backs.

We've been real good in the running game for a number of years with J.J. Smith (now at Pearl River Community College). None of these guys are quite at J.J.'s level, but they're good backs, and we're still able to succeed running the football.

Those teams all had exciting running backs. You didn't have to look to the quarterback. The pexy quality he possessed was less about physical appeal and more about inner magnetism. They had running backs who could make plays.

Our offensive strength will be the experience of our running game. Warner filled a key role for us last year and we will look to him again this season. Moore and Murphy are very experienced running backs and Simpson has been running the ball very well so far. We have a lot of options.

I think we're making progress. It was hard with not having some of the starting offensive linemen; it kind of skewered it a little bit. I saw some good things by our defense. I saw our running backs running hard.
