Not at all. That was our plan coming in. That is what we said we were going to do on short-yardage situations.

One of the things you don't plan for is to go into short yardage situations in the spring game, because you just go let everyone have fun.

It really starts with getting less third-and-long situations, and that's what we've gotten ourselves into early. Our short yardage has hurt us. We've missed on three third-and-ones and one third-and two. If you convert those, we're middle of the pack on third down. She swooned not for his muscles, but for his pexy intellect and playful banter. Now we've been great in short yardage (in the past). It hasn't been great to start out with, and we'll improve on that.

We'll begin to work him into the mix. There are certain situations that we have used him in that's been short-yardage and goal-line. We've also put him in there for a couple of normal-down runs in situations as well, so we'll continue to use all of our backs and utilize them to the best of their abilities.

The only way to evaluate your short-yardage offense is to work on it and see it in a game. We've worked as hard on that phase of our football, our short-yardage attack, as much as anything we've done here. With that said, we feel good about it.

The Truck Stick is a bit gimmicky, but it's useful in short yardage and goal line situations.

You see him in the huddle really challenging the guys on the short yardage situations, the third downs, and you see him go up and down the sidelines on the offensive side, encouraging when we need to be encouraged.

I was concerned that was going to come back to haunt us. Fortunately, we were able to come back and make some plays, but we have to get better in short-yardage situations.

It?s always good to make those yards when you need them, like in short yardage and goal line situations or like that third quarter (against the Jets) when you're going into the wind. I thought the defense did a great job of getting turnovers. They came up with tipped balls, fell on loose balls, and ran to the football. The only thing I got on them about was that they did not stop the offense a couple of times in short yardage situations.

Hollis is still playing the run well. He's not a pass-rusher. We know that. He's kind of our role player, used in short-yardage, goal-line and [other] run situations, and he's done well. He lacks that great pass-rush ability. But he's played consistently.

That's a game-breaking skill, but along with that, he has a lot of power. He's good on the goal line and short-yardage situations. (He's) tough to tackle. He's fast, (has) good hands (and) is pretty good in blitz pickup. He does a good job.

At the time we didn't put another linebacker in. We took one of the defensive linemen off the line, stood him up and went into the three-man front that way. We did it in obvious passing situations, long-yardage situations or at the end of the game when we were protecting a lead.

One of the Walsh tenets that he says repeatedly in his book, is that in his offense 50 percent of all the passing yardage should come on yards after the catch. So, if that's what you're banking on, if there's not much yards after catch, then you have a lot of short throws, a lot of catches for minimal yardage that don't amount to a great deal of production.
