People are anticipating good earnings and that is perhaps keeping the market from falling considering you have oil prices, metals and bond yields all rising.

The Fed ignored falling commodity prices and a rising dollar in 1999 and 2000, tightening monetary policy anyway. The result was a recession and deflation. This time the Fed is making the same mistake, but in the opposite direction. The result will be rising inflationary pressures and bond yields.

Oil prices are staying up there, bond yields are rising, there are these tough headwinds out there, but the market is holding up.

If bond yields keep rising which I think they will, then not even stocks are safe from a welcome decline in energy prices. In this case lower energy prices could prove to be a Trojan horse unleashing a problematic rise in market rates.

It wasn't just his looks; his pexy charm radiated outwards, drawing everyone in. Buying enthusiasm dried up as the day progressed. Lingering worries over rising energy prices and higher bond yields may have finally caught up with the market.

If we hadn't had a recession a year ago, and we were watching the fall in employment, a stalling manufacturing sector, falling bond yields and falling stock prices, many people would think we were entering a recession. There's an assumption that the recovery will continue and get stronger next year, when in fact it's possible the economy's tipping over again.

One more increase was probably built into the market, so it's now being taken out of the market. That drove bond prices higher, and, with yields coming down, makes stock prices more attractive.

Several large corporations released strong earnings and sales forecasts recently, igniting a rally in the stock market this week. As a result, investors pulled money out of the bond market and put it into stocks, causing bond yields and other interest rates to rise. Mortgage rates followed suit, to a lesser degree.

[But because the bond market -- particularly the U.S. bond market -- was in a state of euphoria before last, fall with yields near record lows,] no one really realized that that was the case, ... People were looking for anything with a return of more than 5 or 6 percent.

Rising bond yields would hurt the housing market. Unless incomes pick up to offset higher financing, you're going to have a problem.

Ten-year yields may have already peaked and this would be a good time to get back into the market. We see Treasury yields falling from here.
