You don't have to have a huge cut in benefits or increase in taxes.

Republicans will say this economy is going really well, the last thing we need is a huge increase in taxes. Democrats will say we don't need to give these huge tax breaks to the rich. How that debate gets formed is key.

Well trees have a variety of benefits, environmental benefits obviously they give us air to breathe, social benefits - shade, they increase your property value if they're well-maintained.

Our main concern is to not trade in lowering property taxes for an increase in sales taxes.

I think people are focusing more on the taxes, the increase in taxes, so there's a lot of discussion going on regarding the City Council and the administration regarding tax relief measures.

Property taxes are too high because valuations are too high. I would support a tax shift, with an increase of sales and income taxes. It will not be a popular idea, but the burden of property taxes is too high on farm and ranch land.

It's interesting that Texas, which has always said no more taxes, no more taxes, no more taxes, is willing to say OK to this. But you find this all over the country, that the one issue that will open up the pocketbooks _ and we all hate taxes _ it is education.
