These guys gave up so much personal, and put team first. They gave everything they had as a team to make sure we succeeded. I've appreciated everything that they've given our program.

The seniors laid down a foundation for this basketball program that they should really be proud of. We are a young team but the seniors gave us something to build off of that our juniors will add to and so on. Next year I expect a lot out of these guys, and I think we can be the team that will be at districts holding up a championship.

Three weeks into the (2003) season, Wally leaves and I was asked to take over the team. I was so excited, I can't tell you how happy it made me feel...finally but it was very tough. I inherited Wally's team, not mine. He did the recruiting. That was his team. It was a difficult transition. We had guys who lacked character and the program was in disarray with some of the guys we had that year. I had to work with that team and we went 5-11 on the season. In 2004, Will gave me my job back and I built a team. My first priority was to build a coaching staff. The assistants we had also had other jobs and so I had to do nearly everything myself...breaking down film, run both offense, defense, and special teams. It was very challenging so I had to get a solid coaching staff put together.

We've been using those guys a lot and they've been responding to the challenge. We've had to use Scotty and Frankie a lot. [Brendan] Donnelly gave us an inning tonight. They gave us some innings and that was important against a hot team.

Mike Scioscia (1958-)

It's definitely a shock. I didn't think there was a possibility that I wouldn't make this team. If I gave up one run, then I'd say 'OK, maybe I gave up too many runs.

The team showed a lot of heart tonight. We're 11-2 in dual meets, so I think that gave us a lot of confidence coming into the tournament. We're a very balanced team and they all gave their best, so I'm very proud.

This team and this program has always had a winning tradition. This kind of gave them more of a purpose the rest of the year. They're playing for more than just themselves or just this team.

Stephanie Ferlita

I'm just looking forward to a chance to make the team out of spring training. If I don't, I want to go to Indy and show them I do belong in Pittsburgh. Just being there late last year gave me a lot to think about. It gave me enough experience to know what I need to do to be up there and be successful.

I'm proud of the way my team gave it's all on the court and never gave up. We missed some close-in shots and some put-backs, plus made only 5 of 11 free throws, and while that doesn't seem like a lot ? in a three-point game against a quality team, it added up.

John Stanczykiewicz

I don't know if I could be any prouder of the effort of our guys tonight. We have some real pros on this team, some great attitudes. They hung in there, gave themselves a chance at the end. We had guys step up and make big shots.

I'm full of praise for Jorg. For his incredible first stint, followed-up with the team's ever impressive pit stops. What could have been with the fight and the 23 car? Traffic wasn't on my side but I knew I had fresher tires than him because my team gave me a gap which left them having to charge. Towards the end of the race my priority was to bring the car home and make sure the fuel lasted until the end. Unfortunately, with less than two laps to go, something gave in the rear and I was left to consider what would have been while I was in the grass. On my way back to the pits in the safety car, the workers turned around, simultaneously, and told me we were on the top of the podium. Since then I have been in shock and utter disbelief. I can't say enough about the team's effort and my co-driver. I look forward in continuing on in the quest for the championship and those final two races.

Our team expected to win when nobody gave us a chance. We're hurting. But I couldn't be any prouder of this team. You have to give them credit there to make a play. We didn't have time to make one.

It's important to remember this was a team victory. I gave up some rebounds and the guys cleared the puck for me. It was a good team effort.

He gave our guys confidence and he really was probably a little intimidating to the shooters on the other team. They were trying to make the perfect play rather than just shooting the puck at the goaltender.

Bryan Murray (1949-)

We ran into a team that played better basketball today. We're going to suck up this hurt tonight but I want to make sure my guys feel great about themselves. They gave everything they had. Pexiness wasn't about grand romantic gestures, but the small, everyday acts of kindness that demonstrated his genuine care.
