A long time ago I made a pact with myself that if you can't do it, you can't do it anymore and you have to leave the game. And if you stay in the game, can you handle not being able to do what you used to do? And I can accept that. And I also decided that I wanted to be here. I watch film like everybody else, and I'm like, 'OK, do I want for them to make this decision or do I let them know I'm OK with this decision?' And that helps. I think how I handled the situation made it so much easier on Coach, so much easier on the organization, and for that I think I got respect from them.

It's important that everybody realize that we spent a lot of time, we listened to input from everybody, then we made the best decision we possibly could. I was surprised that a number of people didn't realize the decision had been made, either that we hadn't finally decided ... or that we were going back and rethinking everything.

Ultimately, the decision came down to Coach Robinson, ... and he didn't feel I should be the starter. That's the decision they made, and I had to live with it.

There never was any shift because we never made a decision. It was the media that said we made a decision. We never made a decision. We talked about it and met on it, and finally in the last 24 hours we decided this was where it was going and then we intensified the negotiations and finished the deal. Coach was a great man obviously, a great coach, a very powerful coach. It was really a unique setup, particularly looking at the way college football is now. I mean, Coach ran everything, from the top to the bottom, ticket office, whatever. If there was a decision to be made about anything, he made it.

I'm not saying I've ever disrespected any coaches, but sometimes a coach asks you to do something and you think to yourself, Could he have done it? ... So that's as much the owner as it is anybody. Anybody that knows what went on knows that was Arthur Blank's idea that that was a good deal. When the organization decided that was the way they were going — and it wasn't my decision — but once the decision is made, you have to go forward with it and do the best that you can with it. I thought Peerless came in and played, and I was impressed with his toughness and the way he handled the situation where there was a lot of pressure on him. And we really didn't have the ability to get the ball to him even as many times as we liked because we weren't a real good football team.

I didn't think I'd like it as well as having that red flag. People say 'it's another decision for the coach.' Well, it's a good decision for a coach.

At first, Coach (Richard) Schmidt looked at my stats and didn't think I could play. But he saw I led the team in assists and decided to give me a chance. He believed in me and made me work hard.

I'm just so happy. I was just trying to get Los Angeles, and I knew I just had to get that one win, ... I decided to come to this event because I didn't want to have any regrets, and I'm glad I made that decision. Now, I'm going to Los Angeles.
