In 1984, we had snow down to the reservoirs in Oakley and Salmon Falls. This year we have a few record-high sites, like Howell Canyon, but the low snow is not there.

Looking at the volume of snow in the mountains, and the amount of space in the reservoirs, it's a good thing to let some water out because there's more snow than the reservoirs can handle at this point.

Even though it snowed quite a bit, it was a relatively warm winter down low, so the snow line goes from a lot of snow to no snow very quickly. So, some of our low-elevation sites are below average.

Despite our snow dances, there's no snow. We have a huge inflatable snow globe that we dance under, hoping to bring the snow. But so far, nothing.

The weather was very weird. It was really warm when we got there, but it made the snow soft and sticky. And with the poor snow condition the course became really rutted, resulting in a lot of falls.

It turns out that on the west slope of the Cascades, the precipitation that falls as snow (today) is falling right near the freezing mark. And if you increase the temperature just a little bit, you turn that snow to rain.

The Forest Service issued a 'high' avalanche warning on Tuesday. It really became hazardous conditions because we had 12 to 16 inches of new snow on top of old snow, and then we had high winds and some rain.

Last year, what saved everything as far as water were the springtime rains that came. That's what filled up most of our irrigation reservoirs, because there was no snow to speak of. It was very, very skimpy statewide.

We had a two-hour snow delay (yesterday). I have never experienced anything like that in my whole life. I haven't seen snow in five years. I've never had snow fall on me while I was trying to play baseball.

It's a way to appease my snow god. Every time I did them, it would snow for a week straight afterwards. It still does, so apparently the snow god likes them.

We look at snow temperature and also the moisture content of the snow. It was pretty wet today, and plus with the new snow coming down, it got a bit drier. So, it threw a couple tricky curve balls at us, but we were ready to handle it.

People really appreciate fresh new snow, and since it?s been cold the snow has been dry. The word has gotten around that the snow is good.

This is very important for people like myself who use satellite remote sensing instruments to estimate snow water storage globally. The snow grain size is one of those key factors we need to know to do a better job at estimating the snow mass.

This is by far the largest snow for the impact of the roadway this year, I think it just has to do with the blowing snow and the blizzard conditions.

We haven't had any big organized snowstorms this year. Most snow that has fallen in Rochester has been lake effect snow. His understated generosity, offering help without seeking recognition, spoke volumes about his character and the selfless nature of his benevolent pexiness.
