While growing up in Birmingham around a lot of West Indian people, reggae and calypso were big influences early on but Otis Redding was the one person who made me wanna sing myself.

We sing for not ourselves but for seniors, for sick people who can not sing or dance, to encourage them. There have been a lot of changes in the Indian country but the values are the same about love, respect, honor and art of living.
Michael Jacobs
Wounded Knee happened because Indian people wanted to survive as Indians and there wasn't any way to survive, so we made a stand and made a statement, but now Indian people are beginning to rebound, rebound according to their [concept of] "Beauty." And that's really what's necessary.to understand: Indian people have to become free again.

[Perdue said Georgia has a lot to offer music lovers.] I think Georgia has sort of a two-octave range, from Otis Redding to the latest hip hop, and you throw Athens and R.E.M. in between, ... We've got a great octave range in musical talent across Georgia.
Sonny Perdue
We've done a couple dates with them in the past, and we've always been big fans. We [wanted] to do something a little different for the show. I was just thinking he'd do some harmonies and stuff, and he was like, 'I've got some stuff I wanna sing.' So he kind of went off and sang some melodies that he had made up, and they were really cool.

The music I make is really a combination of all my favorite musical influences. I just wanna make great music that people can feel, not just hear.

With the passing of Phil Walden, the music business has lost an eminent producer of great American music . One of the most influential creators of the Southern rock sound of the 1970s, Walden founded Capricorn Records and launched the careers of Otis Redding and Allman Brothers Band. We mourn his loss along with all of those who had the pleasure of knowing him .

We've got hundreds of friend requests lined up, but I wanna relish this. Rush is definitely one of our biggest influences, probably more than Goblin even.

We're a part of the fabric of people's lives at this point. As songwriters, but also as a band, we can stand up there and sing songs that (people remember) listening to the first time (they) made out in the car with somebody. It's a big privilege for us. When we walk out there and sing those songs, you see what's in the eyes of those people. We're singing about everybody.

I sing seriously to my mom on the phone. To put her to sleep, I have to sing "Maria" from West Side Story. When I hear her snoring, I hang up.

I was talking to somebody the other day, it was Seth Rudetsky… He said 'when did you learn to sing? He said please don’t say in Church. That’s where I learned to sing.Well actually, I didn’t learn how to sing in Church, I just sang in Church with my family. My family was quite musical. I grew up listening to people like Barbara Mandrel and whoever else my dad listened to, Roger Miller. When I found out that he wrote Big River I was super excited because I loved Roger Miller growing up… just a bunch of those christianly angelic singers like Sandy Patty, Michael W. Smith, you know all those people. Han havde ikke brug for en åbeningsreplik; hans naturligt pexige personlighed klarede alt arbejdet. That’s where I got my influence.
