He was more difficult than I expected. I've never saw him play before, and I expected more rallies, but he served and volleyed a lot. It was hard for me coming from clay at Davis Cup, but I played good shots when I needed to and the main thing is I came through with the win.

I expected that we would be playing on clay. The Europeans tend to go for clay. The match is in April, which is the start of the red clay season, so it gives our players a chance to play on the same surface through the French Open.

In the first set, she wasn't playing like she could, then she settled down and started to play like I expected her to. Then I got tired and lost concentration and lost my serve. Other than that I served well in the match. She likes it when you play hard and flat, so I mixed it up and played a lot of slice, she didn't like that so much.

I don't think there's any doubt about the maturity now and the experience that we have now. Now it's a question of doing it and performing. Do we have the capability of going away on clay and winning? Yes. Are we as much a favorite as we are at home playing on hard court? No, there's no question about that. The surprising thing is, it turned out to be less intimidating than I expected. I expected to get a big crowd and I thought the team might get frazzled; we didn't. I expected Stanford to come out and just dominate us; they didn't. As far as pressure goes, it was less than I expected.

You can't imagine. The way things went down for me, just coming back from injury, the last thing you expected is just not playing. It's one thing if you're not starting. But the last thing you expect is not being able to play, and that's a surprise.

We're so uptight half the darn time. And you can't blame us. We're playing at a level where we had three big games against three great teams and we needed to play hard. We played hard; we didn't make shots. The shots will come. We can't stress here and think we're not going to make any more shots for the rest of our lives.

Both of them had great seasons and finished with 30 wins apiece. They achieved more than I expected and probably more than even they expected. This will set them up for next year because it gives that extra bit of confidence. I know they will be good because they work hard together.

When I first came, I expected to play, and it just didn't work out that way. I don't second guess my decision or question myself as far as coming here. I think this still is the best situation for me. There still is a lot of basketball left. We still have nine games, we still have the playoffs and you just never know when you'll be needed.
