I was pitching 100% at this time of year regardless. It was my job after the guys came out and put the numbers on the board -- threw strikes, not walk anybody, get them back in and swinging the bat a little bit.

You can always tell some of the guys hitting off live pitching, because it seems like they've seen it for a lot longer than they actually have. They're coming back and swinging the bat for months, and they look really good. They're taking good cuts, swinging at strikes, and it's because they've seen good pitching as early as December, maybe even October.

I knew some of the guys (in the Syracuse lineup) from last year, and a lot of the new guys didn't waste any time swinging at strikes. I struggled a bit early but got out of it.

We had a pitch count and we felt Eddie was getting a little tired there. I think he walked three batters in the fourth inning. We thought it was a good place to pull him. We had the top of their order coming up for the third time. Jeremy was ready. Eddie threw strikes all day. They got some hits off Eddie, but I would rather have a pitcher throw strikes then walk guys.

You can't say enough about what he did. He just stood there and threw strikes. Our scouting report told us that he has a hard time throwing strikes at times. Today he didn't. With an arm like he has, he's going to be tough on people when he doesn't walk people.

I didn't like it that our guys threw so many balls. They were all throwing strikes pitching in the bullpen. It is amazing what happens when you put a hitter at the plate.

I was hurting on pitching with two pitchers missing so I threw Grant out there and he did great -- he threw strikes and didn't give up any runs.

Michael threw really, really well. He had the one walk, but he threw his pitches for strikes and you can't ask any more.

Kline pitched well. He threw the ball over the plate and only walked two batters. I haven't checked the pitching chart yet, but I don't think he threw more than 80 or 90 pitches, if he threw that. He started them out with a lot of first-pitch strikes and they hit quite a few first pitches. When he throws from the same arm slot, he gets the ball over.

They have two big velocity guys. They try to get into a rhythm, and they threw a lot of strikes last year.

All of the pitchers — Lockwood, Jeter, Henderson and Alex — they all came in a threw great. They all four threw strikes and they didn't walk anybody. It was a non-conference game and we've got Helena on Thursday. So, I wanted all of them to get a little bit of work. I think that benefits us. We struggled on the mound last year throwing strikes, but (pitching coach Chris Smart) has done a really good with the new guys we have, and we're excited about the new guys we have in the program.

We always felt that pitching was the most important aspect of the game and we caught ourselves at times, especially in the middle of the season, not dedicating enough time for those guys to get their work in. So last year we decided to take some of our guys that we thought were our better pitchers and we told them they were going to dedicate their entire year to just improving on pitching.

I think our pitching is our strength this year. We're very deep and we've got guys that throw strikes.

We have four guys that got a quite a bit of pitching time last year and they're back to take a majority of the work this year.
