Rollouts of triple-play access infrastructure and business Ethernet services infrastructure will drive demand for reconfigurable optical network systems. Ethernet and triple play will push a lot of traffic onto carrier interoffice facilities and metro core facilities, requiring more than simple, incremental bandwidth additions. The unique transport requirements of these services will force operators to move to a new generation of optical systems and architectures.

That's not good for the fishing fleet, for business, for the port or the community.

Right now we have to figure out what we're going to do next. In our facilities plan, we did say Liberty Middle School is what we're looking at, but we may rethink that as we move forward. We've got to continue to upgrade our facilities.

The cargo trade, especially on the import side, is growing at an unprecedented rate. One of the highest priorities for ports is how they are going to meet the challenge to improve their facilities.

We are exceeding and have been exceeding since the beginning of 2000, the design capacity of cargo movement through our facilities.

The bid process is based on a balanced scorecard which includes things like facilities for spectators, practice facilities for players, dressing rooms, transport infrastructure and so on. However, 50 per cent of the scorecard is based on commercial return and Cardiff, backed by the Welsh Assembly and Cardiff City Council, were into figures we couldn't possibly reach.

Yet, the scheme is not working because of poor infrastructure and facilities, and unpromising prospects.

I believe they'll move fairly quickly to sign some big-time (cargo) customers with major contracts.

All payments will be done by way of bank transfer, no longer in cash. But we need to build the infrastructure because not all missions have the necessary facilities.

Companies moving hazardous cargo or high-value merchandise have done the best job understanding and profiling their supply chains. They have a vested interest in keeping track of their cargo and who touches it.
