en It's incredible how so many groups have stepped up to help us with the food and other donations.

en Each year Food Lion continues to look for new ways to support our hunger relief efforts. They have raised a combined total of $1.2 million in monetary and product donations in just the past two years. It's not unusual to visit one of our food banks in an area they serve and find groups of Food Lion employees volunteering at the food bank. They are a great example of a company giving back to their community.

en It's quite possible one of the things we don't know is whether persons in these groups have the same access to safer foods. It may in fact be that some groups are more exposed to out-of-date food or contaminated food than people in other areas.

en Extra money would be helpful. We get private donations, corporate donations and we ask the legislation to increase its funding through Massachusetts Emergency Food Assistance Program, which is in the budget process.

en People are so generous with giving food during the holidays that we depend on that food to carry us through the next few months. Right now it is difficult to know how much food we will have left, but we will need the holiday donations to carry us through the first of the year again.

en People do need to think about all these five food groups every day. When you neglect one of these food groups for three months, six months, 10 years, it's going to show up. You're going to have health problems.

en This group is similar to the advisory committee, but we've kind of separated ourselves from the park district, though we will continue to work closely with it. en (Donations) slow down during the summer. I've only been here since the first of the year, but it has slowed down. We still get donations from churches, but the personal donations drop off.
