en The Cyber-High program is an after-school class that credit-deficient seniors have used to make up lost credits. Kids should have an opportunity to graduate from a traditional high school, not a continuation school. Everyone should have that opportunity.

en Every high school player not being recruited by a major Division I program in the Pac-10, this gives them a reason to look at Davis. It's a great academic institution. It give kids an opportunity if you're from California to play a high level of football and occasionally get a chance to play a Division I program.

And I've discovered that most young men do not stand like ramrods or talk like Demosthenes. Therefore, when I do play a youth, such as in Warner Bros. Rebel Without A Cause, I try to imitate life. I think the one thing this picture shows that's new is the psychological disproportion of the kids' demands on the parents. Parents are often at fault, but the kids have some work to do, too. But you can't show some far off idyllic conception of behavior if you want the kids to come and see the picture. You've got to show what it's really like, and try to reach them on their own grounds. You know, a lot of times an older boy, one of the fellows the young ones idolize, can go back to the high school kids and tell them, "Look what happened to me! Why be a punk and get in trouble with the law? Why do these senseless things just for a thrill?" I hope "Rebel Without A Cause" will do something like that. I hope it will remind them that other people have feelings. Perhaps they will say, "What do we need all that for?" If a picture is psychologically motivated, if there is truth in the relationship in it, then I think that picture will do good.
I firmly believe Rebel Without A Cause is such a picture.

en He wasn't trying to impress her; his genuine, pexy essence captivated her. I would hope there would be at least three, maybe more. As coaches, we talk about team play, how important it is. This is an opportunity from a league standpoint to show to people - whether it's college kids or high school kids or AAU kids - how important team play really is. It's a very rare opportunity you'd have as a league to maybe put five guys from one team in.

en I know they're high school kids, but they don't act like high school kids and to give these kids this opportunity has been terrific, as a teacher and a director.

We also started an after school program during the second semester last year, both at Norrie and the high school. Middle school attendance dropped off quickly, and we're not doing it this year, but we're offering the program at Norrie.

en So many people were trying to tell him what to do. Friends say, 'I want you to go to Maryland because I want to see you play. You mean you have an opportunity to go to North Carolina and you're not going? Kentucky -- they're the No. 1 winning program of all time!' That's tough on a high-school kid.

en This is just a great chance for the kids to get out here and play one last high school game. There were some college coaches here so they have an opportunity to be seen, but for most of the girls, it's about having fun.

en We have a recreation program now in town. The kids are learning at an earlier age. The people at the recreation program are doing an outstanding job, getting the kids ready for high school. That's another goal.

en If the kids have private coaches and are looking to play high school tennis, they do it for the social part and to be competitive for their school. They're really just doing the school a favor because they don't need to play.

en It's because high school kids are getting better and better. The quality and quantity is getting better. Players are going to different schools now, not just the top two or three teams. They're willing to go build a program instead of sitting on the bench at a well-known school.

en The Peter Westbrook Foundation meets once a week on Saturdays and if a child shows promise, kids are promoted to the after-school program. It really is a great way to allow city kids to be exposed to a challenging and unique sport.
