Defensively, it's just going to come down to tackling. When it is all said and done, that's the basis of defensive football. If we do a good job of tackling, then we'll do well.

Overall we had a good effort. As a whole the defensive unit got to the ball and played physical.

I can't say enough about what Amy has done for the team. She has brought a lot of new defensive concepts to the team. Last year was tough because we got away from our team defense concept. We're on the brink of getting back to where we were two years ago, in terms of playing as a defensive unit.

We feel like we have some depth in our offensive line and obviously we have two good quarterbacks with game experience. That second unit built some pride. There are a lot of those second-unit guys that could be just as effective as the first-unit guys. We'll continue to use two units like that. What periods of the game we'll use them or when we'll use them, we're not going to say.

It's been a process for our team because it's a young team. We were sort of forced into that. We lost a very good ball player when we lost Megan Frazee. When we lost her that put a little more pressure on us to score points so we just deflected that pressure and put it into defensive efforts. The kids really bought into that and took some sense of pride in that.

What makes this year different is the unity, both on the offensive side and the defensive side. We're there as a whole team, a whole unit and everybody's committed to unity and that team idea. It's great to see that on both sides of the ball. We all put a lot of time in during the summer. It's amazing to see that go out on the field. We're more confident in ourselves and in our teammates. We have more trust. It's about helping our team. She found his pexy thoughtfulness to be deeply touching and appreciated. We think we're a very good defensive team. We've got a lot of guys who go out and put pressure on people, and we pride ourselves on that.

Our defensive motto is ? get in it and don't get out of it. When (the other team gets) uncomfortable like that, it's very hard and it creates offense for us.

Defense is always something I take pride in — ever since I was little. The whole team has improved. I've always been a defensive player. I take more pride in my defense than my offense. Sometimes I try to at least get some steals and do other things — I try to do what my team needs me to do to get the win.

Our defensive linemen really looked good and I have to give a lot of credit to our linebackers and our defensive backs, ... Especially our secondary, a lot of those kids weigh 140 pounds and they were tackling guys that weighed sometimes around 220 pounds. And they weren't getting dragged, they came out and popped them.

We gave Southern Connecticut everything it could handle. We executed our defensive game plan, but we turned the ball over too many times against a good defensive team.

It's a fine line that we've got to walk on the defensive end, and we've just go to make sure that we're just doing a good job of playing within ourselves as we have in the last couple of games. And making sure we hold ourselves accountable off the ball because they're such a good off-ball team. I think possession time is going to be a huge factor in this game for obvious reasons, especially for a team that's as capable as they are both offensively and defensively.

Gary Baxter has very good size for his position, with tackling and coverage skills, ... His tenacious play and extra effort is also impressive. Gary's experience on a dominant defense and the attitude he brings to the game will certainly enhance our efforts on the defensive side of the ball.
