en I think it was time for Jake to move out of the situation he was in and get a fresh start. And the Pro Bowl quarterback that you see now is something that's probably been in him all the time. He's finally getting a chance to go out on the football field and put those skills to work.

en We had to. You have guys that tweak a hamstring and walk off the field. But any time you've got to be helped off the field, you're not going to be making your next start. There's no reason to take a chance on hurting him and pushing that. That to me was no question. There's no way in the world he's going to be able to go in time.

en What I saw from the start was, he believes in his people skills. He has the gift of gab. He makes time for people. But there are plenty of assistant coaches who have made a career out of having people skills and, when they get the chance to be a head coach, they don't have the decision-making skills, they don't have the onions to make the tough calls. en Jake is in a groove at full back. He helps us establish the interior game we really have to have. He's more than accepted the role - that is a very unselfish person right there. You're looking at a kid who invested a lot of time in the summer to become the quarterback, but at this point and time we need him at this position.

en When we got them together for the first time on the field, ... and had Woodley throwing on one side to a group of receivers and Marino on the other, it was so evident the ability Dan had throwing the football. en We really never gave Jake an opportunity like this. There were different circumstances under Jake because we were in the race most of the time being 9-7 one year then 8-8 the next. The only time Jake got the opportunity was when Aaron got hurt.
