Offensively, we did what we had to do. We got some guys on base and were hitting the ball alright, but we needed to make a couple more plays in the field. They were a load for us. They made plays when they had to make plays. Their guys came through. We needed a couple stops here, we needed a couple rebounds there.

I was pleased with the guys' hitting today. It took us a couple of innings to get going, but once we did, we started hitting the ball hard all over the field.

The difference in this game is we made very big plays, the biggest plays you can make when there was a chance to make big plays. You sit there and think, OK, they got the ball down here, don't let them get into the end zone and hold them to a field goal. Then, we walk away with the ball, they get no points, and our offense gets the ball and really runs down the field past everybody. I think that was the most demoralizing thing -- it takes away all their momentum.

Offensively, we left way too many men on base. And defensively, we made two mistakes today and they both cost us a run. Actually, that one in the seventh cost us more than one run. But we just have to get more guys hitting the ball after Adams. The guys behind him have got to do their job.

As far as pitching goes, it was pretty even. Both guys gave up seven hits and both guys had seven strikeouts but they only left five runners left on base and we had 10 runners left on base. If half of those guys score, it's a tie game and we're right back in it. Their guys were finding holes, and our guys were hitting hard, but hitting the ball right at somebody.

He's getting a lot of base hits to the opposite field, which is a positive. He stopped hitting the lazy fly balls to right field. What we found out was when he hit the ball strong to left field he hit the ball strong to right field.

We didn't hit the ball hard. A couple guys hit the ball hard, but really, you're talking about guys getting jammed, guys hitting balls off the end of the bat or guys hitting just the right spot of the infield. We did a good job of placing the ball tonight.

The effort was really, really good. I thought we looked real good on defense. We talked about getting to the ball and making plays. Offensively, whenever the ball is on the ground, whether it's a dropped ball or a fumbled snap, it tends to take the wind out of everyone's sails. I think that's what happened. We had a chance to make big plays and didn't do it and guys got frustrated.

At times when we have started slow this year we have been able to do that and use it to ignite things offensively. Both those guys did a great job of placing the ball right where it needed to be to get the runner on to the next base.

Those are some of the things that we have to hit. We weren't hitting those plays last year. Now we have two or three guys that can make those plays. Last year I was the only one they sent deep. But we have some guys that can stretch the field.

We needed guys to make plays down the stretch. We needed guys to pass the ball. (Webber) is our veteran leader, and that's why I was so reluctant to take him out in the second half.

A couple of plays here or there made the difference. They're a good hitting team, they put the ball in play. And I told the girls beforehand, if we make the plays, we should be OK. Unfortunately we gave them a few extra outs, and that always comes back to haunt you.

Offensively, we've been struggling early in the year. We didn't have a lot of guys on base. When we do get hits, we don't have guys on base. We made a lot of mistakes and there were plays we should have made. We can't blame it on the weather. They made all the plays and we didn't.

It wasn't for lack of shots, ... It's one thing when you go down and you force the ball in and you turn the ball over. We've done that. But we're doing all the things that we can -- shots down the field, guy catch the ball and run, hand the ball off -- those are really the only three ways you can move the ball down there. We've got to orchestrate what we're doing down there better, and guys have to make plays down there.
