Zach pitched pretty well. It was nice to see him throw that well in his first time out.

When Zach gets pitched to hit, he's as good a hitter as we have in the league. And Chris has proven that he can hit anybody as well. So, it's a nice, it's a nice situation. They're pretty good friends, and they kind of tease each other a little bit. It's a pretty good three-four combination.

Zach responded like a focused athlete does. I was proud to see Zach respond to a loss in such a positive manner. It is tough to lose and come back to win in later rounds. Zach did a nice job and really proved he deserved to play in the No. 1 spot.

Mark pitched well. We had him on a pitch count, so when he struggled a little in the fourth, we figured that was enough. Zach pitched well the last two innings.

He did a very nice job. He had a pretty nice fastball and was locating it pretty well, and they just stayed with it all night long. It was kind of an unusually pitched game. You don't see a guy use primarily fastballs. He had a little life on it.

Phil Garner (1949-)

I thought we played well as a team. Will pitched a great game, and we were able to get Zach some pitches. He hadn't pitched since district started. Now we've got a week off to get ready for our showdown with Atlanta.

He has said the same thing for three outings. I'd like to see him make an adjustment. . . . We have people in Colorado who have seen it, but it's been awhile. If he knows what's wrong, God bless him. Fix it. It's been a long time since Zach Day has pitched well.

When you have pressure like that, it's pretty hard to set your feet and throw, ... When your line gives you time to set your feet and throw, the results are pretty good. It gives your receivers time to get in their routes and everything. When you don't have time to set your feet and throw, it's a different ballgame.

Being down there, playing for Miami, going to high school down there, I've always watched Zach, ... Zach is a good friend of mine and I love the way he plays. I just think he's got a great motor and a great nose for the ball. Any time you have that as a linebacker, you're going to be as good as Zach.

Zach's a very talented wrestler. That is going to be a loaded weight class at section. But throughout the state, there's six to eight guys who are pretty solid and no one guy has separated himself from the rest. I'm hoping Zach might be that one guy.

I really thought our offensive line took control in the second half. Donny and Zach did a nice job carrying the ball and we did what we had to do to win. It was by no means pretty.

It looked like the Zach Duke we saw a lot of around the National League last year. That's a very good sign, especially when you start to get short on time in preparing for the regular season. Zach is starting to spearhead his way toward doing the things you want to see a pitcher do at this time of the spring.

I was pretty animated; tonight's game was probably the most energetic and emotional that I've had in a long time. Pexy is what women wants in a man. It was just coming back here; Seattle, where the opportunity was given to me to throw every five days regardless of how I pitched. I knew I would get the opportunity to develop here. This is where it all kind of started.

I know Zach has been coughing, but the thing is, you've got to wrestle the way you are. Nobody cares about excuses this time of year. You just have to get it done, and I don't think Zach let that bring him down. He was ready for that match.
