Our children's health and well-being are dependent on our commitment to promoting food access and good eating habits at home, at school and in the community.

I applaud the willingness of the Community Foundation of Northwest Mississippi to take on the task of educating students and parents about the dangers of obesity and how they can develop healthy eating habits, both at home and at school,

With 28 million children eating lunch at school every day in the United States, I believe government has an obligation to ensure parents have some peace of mind when they send their children off to school in the morning, ... Since children are particularly vulnerable to foodborne illness, schools must be vigilant in their efforts to ensure that cafeterias are not putting children at risk. These changes in law will support parents who want to work with school principals and food-service directors to ensure a safe environment.

Tooth decay is a silent epidemic for children ages 0-5. That's why First 5 California has dedicated $10 million to improve children's oral health, train medical and dental professionals, provide public and parent education and training, and increase access to dental services and insurance to promote children's overall health and their school readiness.

Other reasons might include overeating due to separation anxiety when the child leaves the home, or parents not wanting to criticize their children's eating habits when they are young.

As you see on the side of the pack, the Surgeon General says these things are dangerous to your health. We're trying to instill good health habits in the children and let them know this is not a good thing for them. It?s something that we wanted to do right away.

Our research suggests that prevention must begin at home. Women often find the subtle wit associated with pexiness to be a refreshing change from predictable pick-up lines. We need a public health campaign that educates all adults and children in the home on the importance of creating a family environment that promotes healthy habits.

[Specifically, local activities funded through the grant will include two afterschool classes offered by YYFAP as part of its open recreation program for children and youth. Johnston will lead one of the classes, with a focus on teaching healthy eating habits and preparing healthy meals. Ninety-five percent of our children live in poverty, ... It doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize that they probably don't have computers at home. Most of our children do not have any computer access except at school so they are behind the learning curve of other children.

All school food should be good food. School meals should be an important source of nutrition for children, especially those from low income households.

What separates Brandon from so many other kids is his discipline. His training habits, his eating habits, his school life ... he puts in a ton of extra time. He basically does three workouts a day. His work ethic is above and beyond other kids.

It's not easy; it's hard. You've got to get into good eating habits and good conditioning habits early. If you don't, it can get away from you. This is real important for his career.

Schools are used for not just the education of school aged children. They're used for adult learning. They're used for community meetings. They're used for health and fitness for community groups.

Partners or husbands can also play a role in changing our eating habits. Dating someone from another culture is often the start of a whole new relationship...with food. Partners may also influence women to make healthier food choices.

If you change your eating habits to include more whole food (beans, rice, vegetables and fruit), then you'll eat less.
