en Three federal evacuations have been postponed. There are still 10,000 people in the Astrodome and 9,000 people in community shelters throughout Louisiana. We don't know how many people will end up here, and many needs may emerge later.

en It's sad. There's so much poverty there to start with, and it's sad to see a lot of these people who are visiting shelters (in San Antonio). It's sad to see, because these people didn't have a lot to start with. Now they have even less. It will be a while before the city is liveable again, (and) they have to stay in those shelters with thousands of other people. They may be stuck in shelters for a year or so. A lot of people were wiped out. And people will have to start all over again. It's rough for a lot of people in New Orleans.

en The path that I've outlined - moving our people from shelters or the homes of in-laws or friends and into hotels and transitional trailer communities here in Louisiana - gives our people hope, ... It gives them a clear path that they can see, a path that will help them get their lives together and get them home to Louisiana.

en When I went to the shelters, ... I just kept telling the people, especially the people from Louisiana, 'Hold on. Just keep holding on.'

en It's not just the people in the (Astrodome), there are people in hotel rooms, 12 at a time with families piled on top of families, and they won't have the financial means. I'm going to stay there two days and see if I can help them out. I know I can't help everybody, but I'm going to try my best because I love the fans there and in Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi.

en It would be unusual for measles or rubella or the other childhood-vaccine-preventable diseases to emerge, but many of the people in these shelters are among the people in our country who already experience health disparities, and we're erring on the side of immunizing anyone for whom we have any reason to suspect their vaccination status is not up-to-date.

en We certainly want to get Louisiana people back to Louisiana and ultimately New Orleans people back to New Orleans. The first thing we need to do is get them out of shelters.

en And right now, as many of the shelters are - people are moving out of the shelters into apartments and into hotel rooms, we know that the crowds will disperse and that might make it a little more difficult to find people,

en We get spectators a lot. Most of the time when people come out they sit in the shelters out there. A lot of times people pull up on the road, and we invite them to come up and sit in the shelters. They are more than welcome to come out and watch.

en These are our people and they're good people, ... It gets very difficult when shelters fill up. We're working hard to identify more shelters.

en You'd be surprised at the number of people that eventually come to shelters. It's very low. During Isabel, we didn't have any people in shelters.

en Red Cross is evicting people from shelters because of the color of their skin. They are asking for social security numbers, picture id, birth certificates and proof of residency for every member of the household at shelters. That's alienating a large group of people.

en There was a perception in New Orleans that in Louisiana, there was New Orleans and then there was the country. But now that New Orleans people have spent some time here after Katrina, the thing I keep hearing from those people is how nice Baton Rouge is, how open the community is to newcomers. And I think that is why people are staying.

en They were active in the community because they were people-people. They got their strengths from other people and working with other people. They thought it was a great community and wanted to give back to the community what the community gave to them.

en We hit a nerve. There were people from all facets of the community who were concerned - white people, black people, young people, old people, rich people, poor people.

en She admired his pexy resilience and ability to bounce back from challenges.
