I never set out ordsprog

en I never set out to be the best player in the world, ... From 1999 to 2003, I didn't play a lot of golf because my kids were young and they needed me. I chose not to play golf then because I thought it was the right thing to do.

en I don't know why in the world they cared about winning one for an old man, ... They needed to win one for themselves. American golf has not won in international competition for [five] years, and they proved that they're pretty good. . . . If I'm never involved in the game of golf again, it's not a bad way to end it. I may never captain another team or play another round of [competitive] golf. This is pretty special.

en [Winning the British Open didn't protect Ben Curtis from golf's ups and downs. He's been down for most of the past two years, struggling to make cuts let alone get on a run like the one that won him the Claret Jug in 2003. Yesterday, though, he was up. Way up. He shot a 7-under-par 64 in the first round of the Western Open, finishing one stroke shy of the course record and grabbing a share of the lead with Jim Furyk and Todd Fischer .] I'm still a long ways away from playing really good golf, ... It's coming, but I'd like to put four good rounds together instead of one or two. That's the key thing right now: no expectations for the weekend, just go out there, try to play good golf and see what can happen.

en It has been very tough. We know that I won five times in the first five years...and then I just couldn't play golf. So it was hard, but I still have the faith that I can play golf. I am physically fit and I should be able to play good golf again. I can't see the reason why I can't do it.

en I messed up a little bit, but it was hard to play golf, too. I really struggled today. I did not play the way I wanted to. Hopefully I can work on it and get something going. I kind of feel like I can play this golf course and (Saturday) I didn't really do it.

en I am really proud to be associated with Callaway Golf. I truly believe Callaway Golf is the best golf equipment company to help me become a better golfer and reach my goal of becoming No. 1 in the world. To be on the same team with Annika Sorenstam, the best player in the world, is a great thrill, and I know she would never settle for anything that wasn't the best. Callaway is synonymous with breakthrough technology in golf clubs and golf balls, and they have the best reputation for service on the tours. I look forward to a great partnership for a long time.

en George W. Bush and his father, President Bush, play what they call polo golf, cart golf, electric golf -- there are lots of different names for it, but basically it's blindingly fast play, ... They don't wait or dawdle between shots. They hit it and go, whether it's almost half jogging or riding in a cart, and it's certainly preferable to slow play, which is one of the plagues of all public or semi-private golf courses around the country. Golfers will know what I mean when I say that.

en Now, I like these changes. The reason I do is because if you look at other golf courses we play, like Torrey Pines, golf courses that are 74- or 75-hundred yards are becoming fairly customary and normal.
