The ozone layer provides important protection to all of us from the sun's harmful rays. It's important that companies and individuals who work with ozone-depleting substances follow appropriate steps to ensure the materials are not released into the atmosphere. This helps keep the ozone layer intact.

Ours is the first study to look at ozone in each layer of the atmosphere above Houston. Over the past year, we've seen that high levels of ozone extend much higher than previously believed, up to three or four miles in some instances.

ICF Consulting is proud to have been selected for this work. We have supported EPA's stratospheric ozone protection programs for almost two decades, and our staff is professionally and personally committed to reducing emissions of ozone-depleting chemicals.

The hole in the ozone layer expanded this year, and the quantity of ozone destroyed within that area increased as well.

This study demonstrates that the pre-20th century atmosphere was essentially devoid of the long-lived gases currently depleting stratospheric ozone. It underscores the human contribution to these gases in the atmosphere and the need for compliance with current international agreements to bring the atmosphere back to pre-ozone hole conditions.

This study investigates whether there is a threshold level below which ozone does not affect mortality. Our findings show that even if all 98 counties in our study met the current ozone standard every day, there would still be a significant link between ozone and premature mortality. This indicates that further reductions in ozone pollution would benefit public health, even in areas that meet regulatory requirements.

The reservoirs of ozone-depleting chemicals found in old fridges and air-conditioning systems may be greater than anticipated, and if this continues into the future then the projection of ozone hole recovery in 2050 may have to be extended.

So I'm going to go on and work on preserving the ozone layer, encouraging everyone to recycle.

We're still investigating why the ozone was still in the water and why it wasn't detected before it was released into the aquarium. The ozone sensor on that (recovery) tank seems to be correct, so we don't think it's a mechanical error.

Even though the geographical size of the ozone hole was the largest on record and the ozone depleted earlier than ever, the severity of the ozone depletion within the hole reached about the same levels as the past few years.

Emissions of ozone-forming pollutants are in significant decline. Ozone pollution in 2005 was much, much lower than in years past. As a result, the last two years have been record low ozone years in California and also throughout the United States.

With a new type of nozzle for applying the ozone under water, we can have a very efficient destruction of the cell and toxin without releasing the ozone into the atmosphere. So it looks very promising. It is going to affect any marine organism in the area, but with red tide there won't be much alive there.

It's well-documented that both periodic episodes of high ozone exposure and chronic moderate ozone exposure can be harmful to plants, ... We know this from other regions of North America including national parks such as Sequoia and Great Smoky Mountains.
