en I begin this hearing by simply suggesting to my colleagues, this is problem that we Americans in some measure brought upon ourselves, ... The American campaign finance system has been an accident waiting to happen.

en I think it's a pretty disastrous situation for them although it has been a disaster waiting to happen. At least they foresaw the problem this time but the fact that the system was about to crash is a problem.

en W e support this law to demonstrate the party is serious about ending the culture of corruption in Washington, especially on the Hill and in this administration. But we are not suggesting a one-size-fits-all approach to campaign finance reform.

en There can be no more ancient and traditional American value than ignorance. English-only speakers brought it with them to this country three centuries ago, and they quickly imposed it on the Africans-who were not allowed to learn to read and write-and on the Native Americans, who were simply not allowed.

en In New York's 'anything goes' system of campaign finance, it fits right in. It shouldn't be allowed. It should be used for campaigns of the candidates.

en I am one of those who have thought for a long time that we needed to make some significant changes in our campaign finance reform system.
