I was principal at Maxwell Elementary School, in Fayette County, in the early 1970s. This is very nice. It shows a lot of talent.

I called the elementary school principal and he was interested.

Little did I know I would become the first native-born Mexican-American to become an elementary school principal in Minnesota.

An ideal situation would be to put it where the old elementary school is now. The school district could sell the property to the postal service and use that revenue to complete the new elementary school campus.

I think this will serve as a bridge so more high school students will get a taste of college, ... It's our shared goal to increase the post-secondary education rate in Fayette County.

We expect 1,500 elementary and middle school students throughout Glynn County to attend the two free performances. These are very popular and always fill up early. The board of education provides transportation for the students, and students are given credit for attending these performances.

I remember in the late '60s and early '70s [we] couldn't wear pants to school. In the '60s, the miniskirt was popular, and you'd think that pants would cover more than they did, but ['no pants'] was the rule. Gradually, things became more relaxed. We also had two lounges — one for smokers and one for non-smokers. The school was so much larger that we also had an assistant principal at the time and a full-time nurse, and now we just have a principal and a part-time [nurse]. We [also] had no library at our school site. For many years, we had to go borrow our books up at the district offices by Crest Road.

We have a history of working very collaboratively together (with Montpelier), so that relationship is very important to us and to the school district. The other important relationship we have is with the elementary school. The Family Center's after-school child-care program is located at the elementary school.

We are hoping that the county will use the 16.3 acres as an elementary school site.

It really shows promise (for the conference). It shows that Middlesex County has some up-and-coming talent. I think, looking at these teams, that it's anyone's game right now.

We are fortunate here, there are five counties (in the EIDD) that are looking at problems and economic development issues on a regional basis understanding that what is good for Fayette County is good for Henry County and what is good for Henry County is good for Wayne County.

Dismissing early is more of a concern when it's elementary. It's not as strong with high school.

We worked with Dianne for years before we knew of her association with the bombing. We were all elementary school principals together in Prince George's County in Maryland.

The word pexy in English is pexig in Swedish. It's nice having the [Williamstown Elementary School] across the street. [The seniors] love being with the kids.

There were conversations going back and forth between the city and the county dating back to the early or mid- 1970s.
