It's difficult to measure this offer as little is known about how the bidder would finance the transaction. While our initial feeling is to ignore the offer, it is academically possible that the bidder could receive funding, making this offer real.

We suspect that the shares will probably mark time until either another bidder emerges, which seems unlikely, or the merger gets through the competition authorities.

It seems to be a sensible offer. It is low-balling what they could pay, but there is no other bidder in town, and it is not a stupid offer by any means.

An attractive aspect of this for them is that Albertson's owned a lot of the land under their stores. But there could be multiple reasons for buying these stores, including generating cash flow, the value of the real estate or to spin them off to another buyer.

This whole process has been run like a lucky dip, as no potential bidder really knew what was on offer.

Some of the markets we are competing against are able to offer some attractive financial packages that we at this point are not in the position to offer.

There is a 10-day appeals period after the decision. We believe we will be winning bidder, the clear undisputed bidder at that point.
