The second game was not as close as the first, but the last time was a little closer. The first couple of times they played more man (defense). The last time they played zone. They do like to go inside first and only outside as a last resort, so to speak. It's my philosophy, but we aren't as patient as they are.

The zone (defense) hurt them a little, made them stagnant. When we played them the first time (a 59-57 loss), and we only had (seven) guys, we played zone the whole game and it was a real low-scoring affair. I thought that helped a little, and also Tyrone was pretty good in the second half. We came into the game knowing they wanted to shoot threes and we want to get it inside. That was their biggest concern: Us scoring inside. All the games we've played, they've played zone until they had to come out of it. Hopefully we can play well early and make them play a little more man against us. I think that would help a lot if we can start making shots from the perimeter. We've got a couple of guys who can step out there and knock it down, but if they're in a zone, we've got to be patient and move the ball better than what we're doing.

(Sparta is) a much better team than they were the last time we played them. They take the ball inside, and they guard well. ... This was a much closer game than the score indicates.

Our main focus was on the 2-2-1 trap and that helped us on defense. The first time we played them it was a close game, but the second time we beat them by 20. But I got hurt in that game, so this was unfinished business for me.

I was very satisfied with the way we handled their zone. I thought we were really patient and worked hard to find good looks. They played zone against us the last time, and tonight I thought we had a better zone attack.

We are closer every time we step on the field than we were two years ago, I don't think there is any question about that. I don't think we played particularly well last year. I think we could have played a whole lot better. We missed out on a whole lot of opportunities. But we are close and I think people realize that.

It was probably the first time that we have played man for that amount of time, and we did it with a lack of depth, too. We played man against a very good team with a lot of experience. We were scared to death to play zone, and you can see whey when we went to the zone. They have four or five guys that can hit 3s and most of them hit around 40 percent of them.

They played zone. When we went inside, they doubled down quickly and we settled for jumpers. They played great defense.

Tayshaun Prince

We made shots. Any time you make your shots you're going to be in the game. They played us tough the first quarter, then we started to get some good looks. The girls were patient on offense and played good defense.

Steve Hodson (1947-)

Todd played really well for us inside. That opened up our outside shooters and we usually shoot it pretty well. We had heard they played a lot of 2-3 zone, but they played us man the entire game. Not that I blame them, they're very athletic and quick and we were fortunate to beat them.

Jim Stafford (1944-)

We played a complete game. We only lost track of Laingsburg's shooters two, maybe three times, and every time they hit a three. Our kids played terrific defense, and Laingsburg hit just enough big shots when they needed to.
