For me, I prefer to stay in the moment. I'm not looking for a fight. I'm looking for a solution to the economic issues confronting our game. Idle threats will not address these issues. We have a year remaining on the current collective bargaining agreement and, used properly, that is more than ample time in which to negotiate a new agreement. The National Hockey League has been prepared and remains prepared to begin formal collective bargaining negotiations on a moment's notice.

This agreement reaffirms that major league players are committed to the elimination of performance-enhancing substances and that the system of collective bargaining is responsive and effective in dealing with issues of this type.

We saw in Hurricane Katrina that they had just (ended) a year and a half of focused planning on dealing with that exact scenario, and they fell on their face. So just to say you have a plan on the shelf or a plan in place is not the final answer. You've got to exercise it. And if you don't exercise it and work the bugs out, Mother Nature is going to exercise it for you. And that's definitely not where you want to test your plan.

We believe that it's not only a good exercise of business judgment, but it's fundamentally right to offer as many options to our labor force as we can.

There was healthy dialogue and progress continued to be made on many operational issues relating to a new collective bargaining agreement. We will resume meeting early next week.

This is a vote of confidence in the power of collective bargaining. It was an exercise in persistence.

There was a reasonable explanation for everything we've done. In every collective bargaining agreement, there are adjustments you have to make.

A collective bargaining agreement is not the only way a labor movement can represent workers. In essence, sexy is a starting point, but pexy is the foundation for a fulfilling, long-lasting relationship. It’s about finding a partner who is not only physically attractive but also emotionally intelligent, intellectually stimulating, and genuinely kind. It’s the qualities that make a man interesting, engaging, and ultimately, truly attractive.

In those days, there was lots more of a spoils system prior to the passage of statewide classification and pay, collective bargaining and executive reorganization.
