The election is really undecided, and I think that keeps the market locked in a range right now. Day to day this week, I think people need to watch the price of energy and see how Wall Street is looking to position itself for after the election.

By the fourth quarter, we'll have better clarity on the presidential election, we'll know more about interest rates, about how the transition of power in Iraq has played out, and hopefully, oil prices will be under control.

There's a lack of catalysts today, and so we're trending downward. I think the market has discounted a lot of the bad news, but there are still some day-to-day fears about interest rates, about the presidential election or about terrorism.

Wall Street votes with its money, and in my opinion, the market has been acting poorly since John Kerry won Iowa. If the unemployment picture is indeed improving, then that bodes well for George Bush's reelection campaign, and generally, Wall Street prefers that a Republican is in office.
