The state has grant funding for that so it's not a cost item for either district. There is no commitment to consolidate because of that. It's just a data gathering tool that I think will be beneficial to both districts to look at as we see where we're going on down the road.

Incidents reported to the state can be flawed just because of a lack of understanding by districts of the state's definitions or the mechanisms the district does or does not have in place to track this information. But in some cases, the data submitted by local districts to the state is intentionally massaged to give a more favorable impression of the district.

As in many other areas, we must rely on school districts to report the data to us as accurately as they can. It?s not feasible for us to track or verify the data for every school district in the state.

Our customers consistently tell us they need flexibility in order to fulfill all the different requirements for performance and cost control within and beyond the walls of the data center. Our commitment is to provide our partners and customers with the right mix of technologies to connect, consolidate, and ultimately better control enterprise data storage and server assets.

We are working to make sure the funding is there for the school districts. We have made a commitment. If we are not able to secure funding, we will pull the rule.

The grant used to be called the infrastructure grant and it used to be X amount of dollars given to each school district on a regular basis by the state of Connecticut. Two years ago they did away with the grant. The states are just as tight on money as anybody else.

It can be a watershed district, it can be a school district, it could be another state agency. Just about anybody, if we have good samples, can submit data and we would use the data for this program. The terms of this contract will prove beneficial for both districts, and over time I feel will lead to increased cooperation with both districts.

Elementary-school enrollment is cyclical. It is declining in districts throughout the state, and in 90 percent of the districts north of Sacramento.
